This May, the Nevada Department of Conservation & Natural Resources’ State Historic Preservation Office encourages Nevadans to explore and discover the amazing historic and archeological resources that exist throughout the State.

Nevada Letters About Literature student competition winners named; advance to national competition

Nevada Humanities has announced the winners of the statewide Letters About Literature program. 243 students from Nevada submitted entries to the national competition at the Library of Congress, and nine Nevada students placed in the top three of their respective judging categories and will be honored in a ceremony in Las Vegas on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. The first place winners in each category will represent Nevada at the national competition in Washington, D.C.

The Sierra Nevada Realtors will host the Alyce McCracken Scramble for Scholarships on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Toiyabe Golf Course in Washoe Valley.

This annual golf tournament is played in honor of Realtor Alyce McCracken, a resident of Northern Nevada who had a passion for continuing education and training. Proceeds from the tournament benefit local high schools in the communities served by the Sierra Nevada Realtors including the counties of Carson City, Douglas, Churchill, and parts of Lyon.

Carson City’s Wheel House to sponsor family-friendly Skate Jam 6

For the sixth year in a row, music and skating will be brought to Reno in an all day, all ages party and skate competition. This year, Carson City’s own Wheel House will be sponsoring the event along with Suffix Skateboarding.

The event will be held at Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor in Reno, located at 71 S. Wells Avenue, from noon to midnight.

Closure and delay report for greater Carson City area on Tuesday, Feb. 5

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak has ordered all state offices in Carson City, Douglas and Washoe counties to open at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The Carson City Mayor and City Manager have ordered a 10 a.m. delayed opening for municipal offices.

Carson City schools are closed today. There will be no student activities, including after-school and evening programs, practices or contests. No school services such as transportation, nutrition or student health.

All Carson Valley schools in Douglas County are operating on a 90-minute delay.

Carson City schools closed Tuesday, district web site says

The Carson City School District web site, carsoncityschools.com, has posted a notice that schools will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 5.

"All Schools in Carson City will be closed for the entire day Tuesday, Feb. 5 due to winter-related conditions. All employees, students and teachers should remain home.

"No student activities or programs will occur. This includes after-school programs, practices, performances and contests including interscholastic athletic events. No school services such as transportation, nutrition or student health will be provided."

Time for golf!! The Silver Oak Senior Men’s Golf Club (SOSMGC) has officially teed it up for the 2019 golf season.

SOSMGC is open to golfers 55 years of age and older, and all handicap levels. Dues are $75 and includes your membership and handicap posting in the Northern Nevada Golf Association GHIN service.

As a member, you are entitled to reduced green fees anytime you play Silver Oak in 2019. The season tees off on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. There will be coffee and donuts served opening day at 8 a.m. along with a short informational meeting.
