Oodles of Noodles food festival in Dayton this weekend

The 12th Annual Oodles of Noodles Festival will be held this Saturday and Sunday in Dayton. Hosted by the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, Oodles of Noodles is a two-day event in Old Town Dayton that combines great food provided by our contestants and food vendors, amazing entertainment, local talent, and tons of vendor and business booths.

The Oodles of Noodles Cook-off will be SATURDAY ONLY from 10am-2pm. Tasting Tickets are $5 for Adults and $3 for Children.

New Miss Nevada is Miss Carson City Diana Sweeney

The new Miss Nevada who will go to the Miss America contest in Atlantic City Sept. 15 is 19-year-old Diana Sweeney, Miss Carson City. Her hometown is Moundhouse but she attends UNR, where she is tackling a dual major in math and education.

Swimsuit competition added to the Carson Nugget’s Summer 'Red, White and Blue Barbecue' series

Hey Carson City, grab your favorite swimsuit and get ready to strut your stuff to win more than a $1,000 in cash and prices.

The next Red, White and Blue Barbecue at the Carson Nugget in Carson City will feature a Men and Women’s Swimsuit Contest during the June 29th day-long barbecue from 1 to 7 p.m. The contest will be held from 2-5:30 p.m. with the finals being held inside the casino at the Show Bar beginning at 5:30 p.m.

All signups will receive a free barbecue plate. Because the barbecue is a family event, there are ground rules regarding the competition:

Alumni to be honored at Stewart Father's Day Powwow

Carson City nominated for Benjamin Moore 'Main Street Matters' program

Carson City and Virginia City are two of more than 100 U.S. cities nominated by Benjamin Moore Paints for a complete repaint of downtown, officials announced Friday.

Benjamin Moore launched its “Main Street Matters” initiative May 22. In the contest, consumers around the country can cast their vote online and pick which 20 U.S. Main Streets should be revitalized.

In a news release, Carson City Planning Director Lee Plemel said the initiative is timed well with what is going on in downtown Carson City.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Rural Housing Authority staff, along with its Board of Commissioners, are mourning the death of Commission member, Tom Cook. Cook died at Carson Tahoe Hospital, while surrounded by loving family, on April 25, 2013.

Carson City bartenders to compete Saturday for best Bloody Mary

Attention bartenders and Bloody Mary aficionados: There's a contest Saturday to determine which Carson City bar keep can make the tastiest, tangiest tomato juice-vodka concoction.

Remedy's Bar at 306 East William Street will hold the contest, co-sponsored by Smirnoff, which is providing the vodka. The first place winner will receive a minimum of $100 in cash. Second place winner will also receive a cash prize based on the number of entrants.

Legislative softball game today continues a welcome tradition

CARSON CITY - Halfway through the 2013 Nevada Legislative Session, a little levity may be in order. As things heat up inside the legislative chambers, members of the Nevada Assembly and Senate will take it outside on Thursday afternoon and de-stress at the biennial Legislative Softball Game.

For the third time, the event will take place at John L. Harvey Field on the campus of Western Nevada College, in the capital city. The first pitch will be at approximately 5 p.m. Admission is free.

The winners of the Carson Memories photo contest were announced this week in a ceremony held at the Carson Nugget.

The Carson Memories contest asked participants to submit their favorite photos demonstrating something special or distinct about the Carson City area.

The winning photos, along with the other select photos, are being incorporated into an exhibit created by Gardnerville artist, Beverly Caputo. The exhibit is featured next to a recently finished mural painted by Caputo. The mural depicts key people, places and things of historical relevance to Carson City.

Women to Women with comedian and humorist Kat Simmons

Entertaining audiences for more than 25 years, comedian and inspirational humorist Kat Simmons is this week's guest on Women to Women Nevada with Carol Paz.

U10 Dirt Divas softball action

Opening Day Ceremonies for Carson Girls Softball started the 2013 season on a nice spring day, Saturday 4/13. In U10 league action at Edmonds Park, the Michael Hohl Motor Company/Shaw Nolan Painting Dirt Divas won over the Family Custom Shower & Bath Crazy Devils by a score of 8 to 1.

Get Ready for Bike Month

Next month is Bike Month and there are plenty of activities planned in Carson City. We kick off on April 24 with Nevada Moves Day at the State Legislature.
Muscle Powered is organizing exhibits in the front foyer of the legislative building highlighting Nevada groups working for better walking and biking. Participants include the Reno Bike Project, Safe Routes to Schools, the Carson Valley Trails Association and more.

High Sierra Swing Dance contest 'celebs' prepare for big night

Six local Carson City celebrities are competing in a "Dancing With the Stars"- type contest at the High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s sixth anniversary dinner-dance on April 27 at the Carson Nugget.

The "Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance" contestants have been paired with local dance instructors for a variety of dances, including swing, country, Latin, and hip hop. The instructors are Jo Ann Grace, Rainer Herm, Emily Thicke, Armando Nevarez, Earl Case and Bob Truesdale.

Women to Women part II panel interview with Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong

A panel of seven Carson City area women met recently with Sheriff Ken Furlong to discuss law enforcement issues facing Carson City.

Among several subjects addressed, Furlong spoke candidly about elder abuse, gun control and mental health issues, crime prevention and working with the Carson City School District in the second installment of a two-part "Women to Women with Carol Paz" panel discussion.
