Thursday Conditioning hike to Centennial Park

We walk the gentle uphill trail starting from the parking lot behind the baseball fields. This is a dirt trail, a bit rocky in a few places.This park is off Arrowhead Road, just north of the intersection of Hiway 50 and Arrowhead. As you turn into the John Winters Centennial Park entrance, the trailhead is beyond the Eagle Valley Golf Course club house and around the baseball fields on Heritage Way. Bring a hiking stick if you have one and water if the weather is warm.

Thursday Conditioning Hike to Sedge Road Trail

Turn east on Sedge Road and park at the end of the pavement. This is a dirt road with awesome views of the western mountains and all of Carson City. This includes some uphill climb on the road. Bring a walking stick if you have one and bring water if it is warm weather.

WNC Softball Preview: Wildcats Determined to Leave Legacy

The Western Nevada College 2016 softball team is poised to accomplish what no other Wildcat team before it has done: post a winning season and compete on equal footing with the Scenic West Athletic Conference's top teams.

By the end of last season, the Wildcats were capable of beating any team in the SWAC with a predominantly freshman lineup. They won a program-best 23 games, posted their first winning record at home and won two games in the Region 18 tournament.

The snow is falling in the Sierras and looks like we will be allowed to enjoy all the wondrous activities and sports of Winter in earnest for the first time in three years. Are you ready? Better yet, is your body physically fit and/or conditioned?
If you are in need of a little assistance or guidance, the staff at Well Being gym would like to help. Our Winter Sport and Activity Conditioning course re-starts Monday, January 18 at 6 a.m. and continues each M/W/F at the same time through mid March.

For those of you cyclist enthusiasts that benefited from the passed 3 mild winters but are forced indoors this year, Well Being gym is offering a Winter Cyclist training and conditioning program. The program provides ample opportunity to cyclists of all levels to maintain or build strength as well as improve speed and stamina.

The Carson Library offers some great activities for the kids and Craft Tuesday today is one of them. While you’re there, head across the street to Browser’s Corner Book Store to check out the holiday offerings at their craft fair. ‘Break a leg’ to the talented students of Carson High Musical Theater: their Winter Ensemble Concert is at the Community Center tonight. Jazz and poetry return to Comma Coffee: the monthly performance of the Mile High Jazz Band begins at 7:30 p.m.

This year you will be able to hike from the Morgan Mill River Put-In to the Mexican Dam and back. Meet at 9:00 am at the Morgan Mill parking lot for the full hike, about 12.75 miles roundtrip. For those who wish to do a partial hike, you can meet us at Hidden Meadows Trailhead parking area at 965 Buzzy's Ranch Road, or the entrance to Saddle Ranch on Carson River Road, or at the barn o Silver Saddle Ranch.

The first official day of fall has come and went. Days are shorter and temperatures are cooler. Talk of a “Monster El Niño” has everyone stoked for winter. Thoughts of checking and tuning the gear begin to creep into our minds. Before each snow season there is one question we often forget to ask ourselves…are we physically ready? A lot of mountain enthusiasts attempt to keep in shape by hitting the trails, bike riding, paddle boarding or other adventurous outdoor activities, while others enjoy the off season in a different way.
