Carson City veteran named Nevada Veteran of the Month

A retired United States Marine gunnery sergeant has been named Nevada Veteran of the Month by the Nevada Office of Veterans Services (NOVS).

Frank Reynolds of Carson City was selected by nomination for his work serving fellow veterans both in the community and statewide.

Special Collections has a new exhibit on the third floor of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, Upstart Crow: Shakespeare in Northern Nevada. This exhibit coincides with Shakespeare 400, the national commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. The display examines the impact of Shakespeare, both past and present, in Northern Nevada. Materials on display range from the flourishing 1800’s Virginia City Shakespearean theater scene to the modern Lake Tahoe Shakespeare festival. A high point of the exhibit is the original first through fourth folios of the Merchant of Venice.

Donated to the Western Nevada College Foundation on behalf of the E.L. Cord Automotive Technology Center by Garth Richards, owner of the Silver Oak Golf Course located near the college in Carson City, the combined parts have an appraised value of $15,000.

Broad offerings for summer term at Western Nevada College

Western Nevada College is making it easier to work toward a college degree and career skills. This summer, the college offers a variety of courses on campus and online, beginning Monday, June 8, through Saturday, Aug. 1.

Sculptor Pasha Rafat to speak at Nevada Arts Council OXS reception May 11

Nevada 150 Foundation gives $20,000 history preservation grant to Stewart Indian School
