Human West Nile virus case reported in Lyon County

UPDATE WEDNESDAY: Lyon County has had three (3) confirmed cases of WNV. Two (2) of them were confirmed via pre-screening of donated blood. One (1) case was confirmed to have the less severe form of the illness.
The three (3) cases were located in Fernley and Yerington.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting the first human cases of West Nile virus in Lyon County for 2017. The Disease Control and Prevention Division at CCHHS oversees disease surveillance and investigations in Lyon County and is the agency monitoring the situation. The individuals confirmed to have WNV were diagnosed with the less severe form of the illness.

Get Ready For School: Free Gently Used Clothing, Open to the Public

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosts its ninth annual clothing drive to assist families in the Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, and Dayton, Nevada communities to obtain clothes for school. The annual event provides gently used clothing free of charge.

The event focuses on school-aged children K thru 12. We invite families to pick up free clothing for all age groups to prepare for school on Saturday, July 29, 2017, from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The church is located at 411 N. Saliman Road, Carson City, Nevada, just south of Carson High School.

Steptoe Valley Flyer at the Nevada Northern Railway

Travel back in time to enjoy a classic railroad experience. The Steptoe Valley Flyer was the train that carried 4.5 million passengers from 1906 to 1941 to White Pine County.

The Steptoe Valley Flyer will be departing from the original depot, using the original First-Class Passenger Car 5 (built in 1882), the original Baggage/Railway Post Office Car 20 (built in 1906), and pulled by their original Steam Locomotive 40 (delivered here in 1910).

A 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 5:10 p.m. for gross misdemeanor suspicion of battery on a police officer, resisting and violation of a suspended sentence, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
