Evergreen Gene's collects dog food beginning at 10 a.m. Fridays and the community is asked to dona any bags or cans of dog food for the Pets of the Homeless. Your donations are to provide pet food for the homeless in our community, Pets also need to eat. Evergreen Gene's is also collecting food donations and clothing donations for the Do Drop In Center that provides food and clothes as well as other assistance to the homeless in our community. Evergreen Gene's is located at 1811 N. Carson St.

Bike to Work Week starts May 12th! Many cyclists around the country will be taking to the streets next week to use their bicycles for their daily transportation needs. While many of us are pretty comfortable riding bikes for recreational use, we tend to do these activities in ideal locations away from traffic where there isn’t much to think about besides having a good time. Bicycle commuting and other urban errands, though, will most likely take us through areas that are out of our normal comfort zone.

Hundreds of shoppers arrive at Carson Mall for Bealls department store grand opening

Bealls opened Thursday morning at Carson Mall to great fanfare with hundreds of customers arriving early to shop at Carson City's newest department store.

Bealls store manager Kessn Flitton said customers filed into the 24,000-square-foot store for the grand opening ribbon cutting, taking advantage of bargains, sales, 25 percent off coupons, shopping sprees, gift card and merchandise giveaways.

At least 300 customers went through cashier lines within the first hour of opening, said Regional Manager Lewis Rael.

Carson City man jailed on suspicion of felony child abuse

A Carson City man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of felony child abuse, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office. Michael Isaiah Rodriguez, 21, is being held on $20,000 bond.

According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies responded at 3:14 p.m. to the 1400 block of Siskiyou Drive for a report of child abuse. The minor child at the location had fresh bruising on the left side of his face, left eye, chest, back and neck. The mother of the child told officers that she believed her boyfriend, Rodriguez, had caused the injuries to her son.

George Grover will be calling and he'll start with a beginner's workshop at 6:30 pm. The main dance will follow around 6:45 pm. Make sure to wear comfy shoes and clothes. Feel free to bring a water bottle.

January auditions announced for Wild Horse Children's Theater's production of 'Mulan, Jr.'

Sheriff's Office: Go slow when driving in the snow and ice

During winter months, traveling on Carson City roadways can be quite a challenge. With the rain and snow come cold weather and black ice. Add to this a combination of limited visibility and you increase your chances for a crash, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel of the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

When driving in these conditions, slow down, take your time and be prepared for the unexpected. Don’t rush, drive with courtesy and caution.

Suspect in Wells Fargo bank robbery in custody

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong released the following information on Friday afternoon's robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank at the corner of William Street and Saliman Road. The suspect, Terry Wayne Fowler, 51, who was armed with a folding knife, was booked into Carson City Jail on robbery charges.

Just in time for Thanksgiving, Reno-based nonprofit Black Rock Solar has completed installation of a 130-panel photovoltaic array on the roof of Friends in Service Helping in Carson City.

That means 28 kilowatts of clean energy helping FISH provide medical services, groceries, showers, clean clothes, and yes, a Thanksgiving meal to those in the capital city who need it most.

Carson City man wanted for felony domestic battery found hiding in attic

A 50-year-old Carson City man, who hid from authorities in an attic, was arrested Sunday and faces a felony domestic battery charge with strangulation. William Elliott was arrested in the 1500 block of Rand at 7:26 p.m.

According to the arrest report officers responded to the Rand address for a report of a man brandishing a gun and possibly domestic battery. Officers spoke with the victim who stated she walked into her home and the locks were changed.

Two Carson City men arrested on felony drug charges

Two Carson City men face drug charges after officers found methamphetamine in a vehicle.

Stephen Charles Wilhoite, 47, and Dennis Lloyd Lee, 44, were arrested Aug. 21 in the 2000 block of Oak Ridge Drive. According to the arrest report, officers with the Special Enforcement Team went to a residence to serve a felony warrant.

Carson City man jailed after officers find meth stashed in toy action figure

A 25-year-old Carson City man faces felony drug charges after a vehicle search netted, among other things, methamphetamine that was stashed inside a toy action figure.

Officers arrested Jesse Silis-Teran at 5:35 p.m. Thursday near Humboldt and Long streets. According to the arrest report, officers patrolling the area heard a group of people yelling at each other and met with three individuals at a parked car.

A 28-year-old Carson City woman faces a felony grand larceny charge after allegedly trying to steal approximately 40 items of clothing valued at around $1,000 from Kohls.
Lindsie Newman was arrested Monday 6:45 p.m. after store security stopped her as she left the store without paying. The woman placed items of clothing in a purse and in a plastic bag, according to the arrest report.

Carson City sheriff's deputies make drug and burglary-related arrests

Drug crimes, burglary, child neglect and a third DUI offense made up the bulk of this weekend's felony-related arrests, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies report.

Two men were arrested Sunday and face felony charges after attempting to steal air compressors from a vacant Carson City building. Arrested were Geoffrey Earl Meudt, 39, of Gardnerville and Steven Walter Cozad, 30, of Wellington, Nev. Both are being held and face charges of being in possession of burglary tools and gross misdemeanor charges of conspiracy to commit theft.

Man running with ax arrested by Carson City sheriff's deputies

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrested a man in the 3000 block of Bonnyview near Cherry Creek Apartments at around 9 a.m. Thursday morning. The man had been seen running with an ax. No injuries were reported.
The man was described by witnesses as running with an ax and wearing black clothes, 6'1, 230 pounds and having long black hair. Officers detained and arrested him after he was seen attempting to break into a home.
The man was taken into custody and has at least one warrant for his arrest. He was to be placed in protected custody.
An ax was recovered.

Carson City authorities make multiple weekend arrests

A 39-year-old Las Vegas man faces a felony burglary charge after allegedly clipping security tags off several items of clothing at a Carson City department store and putting them on underneath his clothes.

Anthony Abruzzo was arrested Feb. 17, 8:28 p.m. in the 3800 block of Carson Street after security from a local department store called authorities about the man was believed to be taking shoes.

Man faces felony fraud charges after credit card machine and cards found inside room

A San Francisco man was arrested and faces felony credit card forgery charges after equipment used to make cards was found inside a Carson City hotel room, authorities said.

Joshua Jeremiah Sims, 41, was arrested in the 900 block of South Carson Street Dec. 15 at 3:45 p.m. According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, officers responded to a call about credit card making equipment found inside a room after Sims had failed to check out earlier in the day.
