Diamond Peak Dummy Downhill
Submitted by admin on Sun, 03/25/2012 - 5:43pmDiamond Peak will continue the tradition of the Dummy Downhill on April 1, 2012. This will be the 12th year for the community’s favorite event of the season.
Participants build a dummy on skis or a snowboard that gets launched off a big jump on Showoff run. Categories include Best Crash, Longest Jump, Most Creative, Shortest Distance and whatever else the judges decide to make up.

Here's a story about the city's biggest crafts fair that took place this weekend at Carson High School. The 17th annual fair attracted 120 vendors, filling the school with some early Christmas spirit.
Schat's bakery closed due to electrical fire

Workers are on site cleaning up the establishment, and were handing out free baked items from yesterday to customers coming in the door. The fire did no visible damage to the public areas of the restaurant. They hope to be open tomorrow, depending on how fast they can clean up.

And, just a few days ago, a mother bear and her yearling cub are seen wandering in Ogden Canyon.
Black bear sightings are being reported across Utah.
From northern Utah to points down south, people are seeing bears across Utah right now. And in places they've never seen them before.

State tourism and Carson City officials are anxious to show off the new Carson River Canyon, a place being transformed into a destination for whitewater adventure and sightseeing, rather than a dumping ground for homeless people and appliances.

Remaining fire units will continue to clean up hot spots around the fires and will probably be there for another 30 minutes. Fire investigators are now trying to determine what caused the fire that ignited two homes this afternoon.

There was a good turn out of volunteers for the annual event, JC Pennys and the Casino Fandago being were well represeted. Rob Joiner, candidate for City Supervisor in Ward 1, was also on hand with a few of his crew trying to make the highway 50 interchange a little less of an eye sore.
The Chamber's Executive Director, Ronni Hannaman, welcomed everyone who attended and had the Chamber supply coffee, water, safety vests and hats.
