WNC baseball series moved to Salt Lake City; games to be announced live online

A wet weekend forecast in Northern Nevada will cause the Western Nevada College baseball team to move its upcoming four-game baseball series from Carson City to Salt Lake City. WNC will play doubleheaders against Salt Lake at 1 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.

Graham's Word: Taking a stand for all WNC athletic programs

This is not just for Western Nevada College baseball but all athletics at WNC:

As this season draws near for WNC baseball, I can’t help but think of the great people, Helaine Jesse Morres and Dr. Carol Lucey just to name a couple of the many major key players, that brought athletics to the college and the hard work they endured and accomplished.

Graham's Word: 2015 MLB Award Predictions

Now that the regular season is over I can make my opinion heard on the major MLB Awards. Let the debate begin:

Wildcats lose play-by-play voice Chris Graham; WNC baseball looks for new broadcaster

Western Nevada College’s highly regarded baseball team has lost its voice. Chris Graham, the longtime voice of the Wildcats, won’t return this season to broadcast WNC baseball games over the Internet.

The three-time Scenic West Athletic Conference Broadcaster of the Year has volunteered as the Wildcats’ play-by-play announcer for eight seasons. Now, a new job at the Nevada Legislature will not permit him the time to continue with his self-described passion.

A Letter to Derek Jeter

Dear Mr. Jeter,

Where do I start? First of all, that was a great run huh? Twenty years is an amazing accomplishment and to do it the way you did was something that I will probably never see again. I never thought as a little kid in 1996 when you took over the starting position at shortstop for the New York Yankees that I would be looking up to you and calling you one of my idols.

WNC Baseball: Wildcats head for third straight Western District tourney

Work ethic, determination, commitment and effort are just some of the qualities that contribute to the Western Nevada College baseball team’s success. That the Wildcats are still playing when many junior college teams have packed away their equipment and uniforms is a product of a program designed to make the players successful.

“It’s a testament to the work ethic of the players, a testament to the culture established by previous teams and the quality of the position coaches that are developing the players,” said WNC coach D.J. Whittemore. “We go into every game expecting to win.”

WNC Baseball To Give A WNC Student $1,000 In Tuition During Fundraiser/Giveaway Raffle In February

The WNC Baseball program has been given the "go ahead" by the school and is holding a month-long fundraiser/giveaway in February for WNC students. The team will be selling raffle tickets for just $1.00 each or 25 tickets for $20.00. At the end of the month, they will draw one winner who will get $1,000 towards their own tuition costs.

A Conversation with Chris Graham: Sports Writer Jessica Kleinschmidt

Determination, strong drive, relentless work ethic, and endless thirst for knowledge. All of these are traits you need to have, to work in the sports world. If you want to know how to get any of these? Go ask Jessica Kleinschmidt. She has every one on lock down. She has been working at this career since high school and she refuses to stop until she reaches her goal. Below is an interview I gave her just so fans can get to know her better:

WNC Baseball: Wildcats Seek Western District Championship Repeat

There is no place like someone else’s home, at least for the Western Nevada College baseball team. Since March 23, the Wildcats have played 19 of 23 games on the road, compiling an 18-5 record.

That ability to focus and excel away from home will come in handy this weekend in Sterling, Colo., as the Wildcats pursue their second straight Western District Championship and a berth in the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series.

WNC baseball players encourage Carson City students to read their way to home runs

CARSON CITY — Anytime a child picks up a book and reads it cover to cover, it is the equivalent to hitting a home run.

Emphasizing the importance of reading to more than 100 Seeliger Elementary fourth graders, WNC baseball players Donald Glover, Evan Parker and Carson Now sports editor and play-by-play announcer Chris Graham used the children's book "Home Run" to encourage youngsters to think of reading like playing baseball or softball. Finishing books from front to back should be celebrated because the rewards — learning something new — will last a lifetime.

WNC Baseball 2013 Season Schedule Preview; Carson Now to be a Host of Live Broadcasts

Carson Now is proud to begin its third year of being a host to Western Nevada College Baseball broadcasts. Western Nevada Baseball is now widely known as a national power across the USA. In 2012, Carson Now brought you the exciting season that saw the Wildcats baseball program make it to their third JUCO World Series appearance. This year, the Wildcats will have a strong team that is anxious at retaking that trip to Grand Junction, Colorado.

Graham Blog: National Power WNC Baseball Produces More NCAA Talent

National power Western Nevada College Baseball continues to make more splashes in the NCAA Division I rank. Evan Parker, Mike Umscheid, and Brandon Show have already signed letters of intent to play at 4 year colleges starting in the fall of 2013. This will put the number of WNC Baseball players to move onto higher levels at 95 in just seven seasons.

Graham Blog: Some High Schools Get A Failing Grade with Student-Athletes

Event Date:
October 26, 2012 (All day)

What are some high schools thinking? Some high schools around the nation are lowering or have already lowered the Grade Point Average (GPA) requirements for their student-athletes, and some go as low as 1.6 (a “D” average). This is absolutely absurd to me. I watched a show on ESPN about this and it left me fuming. I cannot believe that schools are so lazy to teach their pupils. They are indirectly saying: “Students struggle so we are not going to work to get them better.”

Graham Blog: What Can Be Done To Protect Pitchers On Batted Balls?

Event Date:
October 25, 2012 (All day)

A batted ball comebacker to a pitcher is the single most dangerous situation in baseball that results more often than not in serious injury.

Can enough steps be taken to protect the pitcher in baseball from a batted ball comebacker that they cannot react fast enough to? Most pitchers throw a pitch with their follow through momentum turning their body to one side, on one foot, leaving them completely vulnerable and mostly defenseless to a screaming batted ball coming right at them.

Graham Blog: A Conversation with Chris Graham: Western Nevada College Baseball Head Coach D. J. Whittemore

Event Date:
October 18, 2012 (All day)

Hello All:

Today is short and sweet. I have posted an interview that I did with WNC Baseball Head Coach DJ Whittemore. It is about 40 minutes long. A great conversation to get to know DJ. I would like to thank Keith Barnett of "We Shoot Video" for his time and hard work on this. If you should need any video work done, give Keith a call: 775-297-4125 or email: info@weshootvideo.net
