Super Bowl Sunday: Where to watch, things to do around Carson City

Area you ready for some football? North, south, east, west, or downtown: there’s a good time to be found: drink specials and football squares everywhere. Street Vibes and the Candy Dance are always the endcap to September. Arts and crafts take over the small hamlet of Genoa this weekend; get a jump on your holiday gift list. All the other corners of Northern Nevada are a playground for the thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts here to enjoy the bike rally. Battle Born Harley on Research Way offers a huge party without ever leaving the valley. Those two events are hardly all that Carson City and our neighboring counties have to offer, however. Sunday, Sept. 18: Things to do around Carson City

Historic Dayton is the place to be. The Annual Dayton Valley Days and Railroad Days features a chili cook-off, pet parade, pinewood derby race, and much more. Join CASI at Riverview Park for the annual 5K9 walk/run and don’t forget to bring your pooch. The Edible Pedal is one of the most delicious bike rides around with 100, 50, or 10 mile courses. Dayton Valley Days 2016 this weekend features festival of parades, music, food and more

Celebrating all things community and the first responders who keep its residents safe, this weekend marks the 28th Dayton Valley Days celebration.

The annual two-day festival is the largest event of the year and draws thousands of visitors and community members to the historic district. Dayton Valley Days helps raise funds for continued restoration of the historic schoolhouse–turned community center and local nonprofit organizations.

Region's first responders to be honored during Dayton Valley Days

First responders who serve the greater Dayton area are being honored during the annual Dayton Valley Days 2016 street festival.

Early this year the Dayton Valley Days Committee unanimously voted to dedicate the festival scheduled September 17-18, 2016 in Old Town Dayton to the region's first responders as a way to thank each of them and let them know that in these turbulent times the communities they serve is behind them.

Sunday, July 10: What's happening around Carson City

Regional chili cooks bring the heat for veterans

More United States military veterans will be able to travel to Washington, D.C. because of the proceeds expected from this weekend's regional chili cook-offs held at Glen Eagles Restaurant in north Carson City, Honor Flight Nevada Founder Jon Yuspa said.

Are you ready for some football? Maybe you’re just a fan of the commercials. Either way, today is the big game between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers. Carson City will be hopping with gridiron parties, beverages and hot wings at bars, restaurants, and casinos. Start the day with a pancake breakfast at the Elks Club. For those who aren’t a pigskin fan, consider playing a few rounds of bingo to benefit the Carson Animal Shelter Initiative.

Fight the chill with chili at the Carson Bulldog Wrestling Club’s Chili Cook-off at Yogurt Beach. Sing some holiday songs at the Holiday Karaoke Sing-along Party at the Carson City Library. Dayton lights up its tree tonight at ‘Our Park,’ so dress in your ugliest sweater and enjoy some hot chocolate and cookies at their ‘Small Town Christmas’ celebration.

Have you been naughty or nice this year? You’ll have no problem finding Jolly Old St. Nick this weekend. At Debug Computers where, in exchange for a donation to Holiday with a Hero, you can get a photo with the man in red. The Santa Train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to grab a candy cane, some hot cocoa, and tell him what you’d like to find under the tree. Photographs with Santa are available at the Carson Mall Wednesday through Sunday. Genoa’s annual Breakfast with Santa has three seatings beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The RAM Clinic begins today. It’s first come first served, so you’ll be in line a while if you’d like to be seen; bring something to snack on and entertain yourself with. Downtown will be the place to be tonight. Notch 8 will be making their first appearance in several months with a show at Westside Pour House. Carson Cigar is still celebrating its 20th birthday, so enjoy live music with Bread and Butter tonight. Comma Coffee will be filled with fun and laughter. The annual Tickled Pink World Dance Open Floor is including a lip sync contest for the first time, so it should be a good time had by all.

I hope you’re hungry, Carson City. Hungry and adventurous. The annual Chili Cook-off and Craft Fair hits Glen Eagles this weekend, and there will be plenty to sample. If you need something cold to drink, head to 7-ELEVEN for a free small slushee from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. in celebration of Seven Eleven Day. The Farmers Market is always a good bet on Saturday mornings for sampling all the yummy stuff that grows nearby.

Many celebrations are scheduled statewide in the month of August. These Nevada 150 events celebrate all things Nevada and bring awareness to the 150th Anniversary of Statehood. The following events are held Aug. 1 through Aug. 14.

Dayton Valley Days calls for crafters, vendors

The Dayton Valley Days Committee invites crafters, vendors and anyone who wants to reach a large number of people to reserve booth space for the 26th annual street festival held in the heart of historic Old Town Dayton.
Dayton Valley Days is scheduled Sept. 20 and 21 with an expected attendance over 15,000.

Tasters go for the bold and zesty during first day of Carson City chili cook-off

Lots of shady trees, a nice gentle breeze and plenty of ice cold beer were enough to keep the heat down a notch Saturday at the High Sierra Regional Chili Cook-Off and Craft Fair in Carson City.

The two-day event at Glen Eagles Restaurant, which continues through Sunday, has brought dozens of the best chili cookers from around the region hoping for a chance to win prize money, bragging rights and a trip to Las Vegas for the World Chili Cook-off Championship. The public is invited to Sunday's event and sampling costs next to nothing, organizers said.
