Sheriff Furlong visits the Last Wild Place radio show

Costa on Wed, 12/07/2011 - 2:15pmSheriff Kenny Furlong was in Reno Wednesday morning taping an interview for "The Last Wild Place," a locally-produced radio show hosted by country singer Lacy J. Dalton. Furlong talked about some of the Carson City Sheriff's Department fixtures, including it's large and passionate volunteer force, and discussed holiday safety tips.
Also interviewed were two members of Occupy Carson City and a Stagecoach resident running for Nevada State Assembly.
Those interested can listen to the pre-recorded show Sunday morning at 10 a.m. on KCMY My Country, 1300 AM, 93.5 FM or 102.5 FM.
Crime log: Two separate probation violations lead to arrests

Costa on Thu, 12/01/2011 - 12:22pmAt around 10 p.m. Wednesday evening, Carson City Sheriff's officers arrested Corey Allan Madieros, 19, a construction worker from Gardnerville, near the 1300 block of South Carson Street. Madieros was arrested for a Parole and Probation violation; no bail was set.
Crime Log: Man arrested for unprescribed oxycodone, other charges

Costa on Tue, 11/29/2011 - 12:58pmA Carson City Sheriff's deputy arrested Orion Jonathan Haines, 20, an unemployed Gardnerville resident, just after midnight this morning, for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant, a misdemeanor obstruction of justice, a misdemeanor minor consumption, and a felony possession of dangerous unprescribed drugs.

Just after midnight on Saturday, officers, arrested Michael Hutchinson, 18, a Carson City resident, on a felony suspicion of using false identification to avoid prosecution and a felony parole violation hold from Lyon County. He was also cited for resisting arrested and minor consumption. Hutchinson allegedly gave the name of an older relative in an attempt not to be arrested. Total bail was set at $10,400, but no bail was issued for the Lyon County hold.

Crime log: Man tased at Empire Ranch
Submitted by T. Costa on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 11:14amCarson City police officers made several arrests on Thursday, including that of Stuart Nichols, 43, an unemployed Carson City man. Nichols was arrested around 4:30 a.m. near Empire Ranch Road and Short Putt Drive.
Crime log: Police arrest California man for heroin, drug paraphernalia

Costa on Thu, 11/17/2011 - 12:22pmOfficers arrested Craig Lawley, 25, an unemployed man from South Lake Tahoe, at 6 p.m. Wednesday for felony possession of heroin and felony possession of prescription notepads. Lawley was also arrested for four alleged misdemeanors - possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and a first-time driving under the influence.
Carson City man arrested for possession of meth
Submitted by T. Costa on Wed, 11/16/2011 - 10:29amCarson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Robert Dodds, 18, an unemployed Carson City man, at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
Officers spotted Dodds walking near the corner of Rice and Carson streets, allegedly picking items up off the ground. Upon conducting a weapons search an officer found what appeared to be a small jar of methamphetamines, and when questioned, Dodds admitted to also being in possession of a glass pipe.
Dodds was arrested on felony possession of methamphetamines and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail is set at $3,500.
Carson City schools lead statewide effort to save money with efficient lighting

With shrinking budgets and rising energy costs, many of Nevada’s school districts have turned to renewable energy and energy conservation measures to save money. The Carson City School District, for example, has used the Nevada State Office of Energy’s (NSOE) Schools Program to install new LED and Super T-8 fluorescent lighting at three schools that will save them almost $80,000 in energy costs annually.
