NHP: Fatal motor vehicle crash on Highway 50 in Dayton

UPDATE 2:55PM: One person died in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on Highway 50 at Retail in Dayton, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

But a reminder here that it is still winter. The weather temperatures outside may be comfortable, but the water temperatures are very frigid.

Christmas tree cutting permits sell out at Tahoe, still available on Carson Ranger District

On Nov. 13, 2,250 permits were issued on a first-come, first-served basis. No additional permits will be authorized at Tahoe this season, however permits are available in the Carson Ranger District.

Alpine County rivers and streams have also officially closed for the season. With the exception of the East Carson River that flows form Hangman's Bridge to the Nevada state line, this section is open all year with special regulations.

Nov. 15 is the final day to fish rivers and streams in Alpine County and much of the Sierra. Lake fishing, however, will remain open through the winter season for some but not all Sierra lakes. Firefighters make progress on Slinkard Fire near Topaz, Highway 395 remains open
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 09/03/2017 - 9:55amThe Slinkard Fire burning in the Topaz area since Tuesday has grown to more than 9,000 acres as of Sunday morning with 35 percent containment, according to Bureau of Land Management Incident Command. Highway 395 remains open.
Slinkard Fire Update: U.S. Highway 395 reportedly open, fire at 9,000 acres
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Sat, 09/02/2017 - 11:01amUPDATE 11:30AM: Acccording to the National Wildfire Coordinating Group web site provided by the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center, the Slinkard Fire has officially burned more than 7,880 acres and is currently about 20 percent contained at this hour.
More than 600 firefighting personnel are on scene, including 15 crews, four helicopters, 56 engines, two bulldozers, and 11 water tenders.
U.S. Highway 395 is reported to be open in both directions. However, both the Nevada and California highway patrols remain on scene to monitor the situation.

The Slinkard Fire near Topaz Lake has grown to about 9,000 acres in size, but firefighters have achieved at least 10 percent containment on the blaze as of about 9 a.m. Saturday morning, according updated reports from all three major television news stations in Reno.
