Seven funny comedy students from around the Carson Valley and Carson City areas earned their comedy wings on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, as they graduated from Kat Simmons' Stand Up Comedy Workshop.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include Polar Express train rides, Touched By Angels hosts a garden craft show on Saturday, a night photo shoot at the Nevada State museum, Rob Sherwood headlines the Carson Comedy Club at the Carson Nugget, 'Matilda the Musical' and more!

Holiday Inn Club Vacations Incorporated, a national vacation ownership company, announced Monday the acquisition of The Ridge Resorts, a multi-faceted 11-acre timeshare property with 378 units located in Stateline, Nev. above Lake Tahoe.

Going into Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 it is Veterans Day. Federal, state and local government offices and schools are closed to observe the holiday. Thank you U.S. Veterans for your service to our great country. There are a number of organized happenings in the region, including parades in Virginia City and Reno, as well as events in South Lake Tahoe and Sparks. Plus a number of Carson City and Carson Valley restaurants are offering no cost meals as a gesture of gratitude to veterans and active duty military members. Also Monday is a discussion on homeless issues with local advocate and champion for those who are often without a voice, Dee Dee Foremaster.

Honoring those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, Veteran's Day is Monday, Nov. 11 with a number of events happening around the capital city and Northern Nevada which began this week and will continue through Tuesday.

Heading into the Veterans Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days. Events include live comedy, art and heater, multiple holiday craft fairs around Carson City and Carson Valley as well as several Veterans Day ceremonies and offers of gratitude to vets and active duty members of the U.S. military on Monday. Chautauqua characters Snowshoe Thompson, Lillian Virgin and Anna Harris return to Genoa, Nev., on Saturday, Nov. 23 5 p.m., at the Genoa Town Hall.

This Chautauqua event features Genoa residents of the past. Chautauquans include Steve Hale as Snowshoe Thompson, the legendary “Mailman of the Sierra”, Kim Harris as Lillian Virgin, the originator of the Genoa Candy Dance and DebiLynn Smith as Anna Harris, early Genoa pioneer business owner.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the second annual Evening with Divas in Carson City, a Día de Muertos celebration at the Nevada State Museum, Nevada Artists Association’s 40th anniversary celebration, paranormal ghost investigations in Virginia City, a pie baking contest in Gardnerville and much more!

The Chateau at Gardnerville, a Pegasus Senior Living assisted and memory care community, recently received the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce's 'Business of the Year' award.

The Chateau will be recognized as Business of the Year at the Chamber's Community Recognition Awards event at 7:30 p.m. on November 2 at the Carson Valley Inn, along with the other recipients in their respective categories. The event itself begins at 5:30 p.m. with a reception, dinner at 6:30 p.m. and then recognition of the award winners at 7:30 p.m.

Artists from Carson City, Minden and Gardnerville will be featured at the 25th annual Northern Nevada Artisan Show and Sale this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2 in Reno.

The event’s 25th anniversary will be dedicated to the memory of Jim McCormick, UNR Art Department chair, artist, curator and one of the founders of the show. Admission is free.

Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada is pleased to announce this year’s Triumphant: Celebrating Women in Leadership Dinner honorees. Six women, each representing one of the six Girl Scout focus areas, will be recognized at the 17th annual awards dinner on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019, at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno.

Counting down the hours until the Nevada Day weekend celebration begins, we're heading into Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019 with sunny skies in the forecast through Sunday. Thursday opens the first of the four-day annual RSVP Nevada Day Carnival at Mills Park with $1 ride family night hosted by Carson City Toyota. Other activities around the capital city include a Muscle Powered afternoon hike, art showings, library activities, a gold and silver rush presentation at the Nevada State Museum and more.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada is seeking sponsors for its annual sweatshirt giveaway for every member of their Carson City and Carson Valley locations. Local donors receive their logo or name imprinted on the back of the sweatshirts as a thank you for their support.

Hello fellow anglers. The season is changing just like the leaves in Alpine County. Renee and I took a drive up to Apple Hill located in Placerville, Calif., last week and were planning on doing some fishing in the higher lakes.

In the U.S., a woman’s chance of being diagnosed with invasive breast cancer is 1 in 8.

These odds, and the women and men it affects, is why BHGE has hosted Bunko for Breast Cancer since 2004 donating over $300,000 in support of the Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include Harvest Train festivities at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Thomas the Tank Engine and steam train rides in Virginia City, the first-ever Gandy Dance in Dayton, October Ghost Walk Tours through downtown Carson City and more!

There are a number of prescription drug roundups happening this Saturday, Oct. 19 around the region, including drop-off stations in Carson City, Douglas County and Dayton.

These annual events help protect the community with proper disposal of unused or expired prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, prescription liquids, pet medications, syringes and more. The effort is part of the federal drug round-up initiative.

History comes alive this Saturday, Oct. 19, when docents from the Douglas County Historical Society will lead family friendly walking tours through the Genoa Cemetery.

The Carson City area as well as Dayton in Lyon County received a heavy waft of smoke late Wednesday due to wind carrying smoke from the Caples Fire burning on the California side of the Sierra.
