The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host a special Full Moon Hike this Saturday, October 31st, at Silver Saddle Ranch. Come experience a full moon costume adventure that can only happen once in a Blue Moon.

Meet at Silver Saddle Ranch dressed in your best Halloween Costume. We will walk to the Carson River and back to ranch in a 2 mile loop. The trail is considered Easy according to the IMBA Trail Rating System.

Hello fellow anglers. In only a couple weeks time, we are going from fall to winter (but only briefly and then right back to fall). Still, it is a stern reminder that winter is right around the corner.

Last weekend, Renee and I fished the Truckee River with a friend. At 7 a.m. we were wearing flannels and jackets, by noon, we were back in tee shirts.

The fishing was very slow, but we did manage a few small rainbows to take our lures.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area. Carson City-based Advocates to End Domestic Violence will host a virtual version of its annual Light after Dark 5K/10K Walk, Run, Hike, Bike and Beyond awareness fitness event and fundraiser this Saturday, Oct. 17.

Each October, Nevadans turn their attention to the state capitol, Carson City, home of the “official” Nevada Day Parade. Since 1938, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City has been an annual coming together to celebrate Nevada’s heritage and the founding of this great state on October 31, 1864.

CARSON CITY — V&T Railway is celebrating Halloween with family-friendly and spooky railbike rides. Running Friday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 25 and Wednesday, Oct. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 31, V&T Railway will offer children and adult focused haunted railbike rides at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has received multiple complaints of residents hearing gun shots emitting from the Deer Run Road area, Sedge Road off of Deer Run Road, and the Goni Road area north of town.

Hello fellow anglers, Fall is definitely here. Renee and I took a trip through Alpine County last week to enjoy the fall colors. Many trees have turned, while others are just starting to get their true colors.

To get a good look at the viewing, venture up through Highway 88 from Woodfords to Caples Lake. Another good area of fall color viewing is from Woodfords on Highway 89 up to Kinney reservoir on Highway 4 .

Heading into the weeknd, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area. Lions Club kicks off its annual “White Cane Days” Saturday and Sunday in Carson City to increase awareness of the white cane traffic safety laws, and collect used eyeglasses for distribution to those in need. Local business Wizard of Pawz grooming salon hosts a socially-distanced grand opening on Saturday afternoon, followed by a pool tournament at Bulldog Billiards at 6 p.m. Combined with live music and karaoke, the state capitol will be packed with excitement! CARSON CITY — As a result of COVID-19, V&T Railway Commission has announced that fan favorite, Polar Express, has been cancelled for the 2020 season. In its place, V&T Railway will host Santa’s Drive-Thru Village, a socially distanced holiday event, Dec. 11-13 and Dec. 18-24.

Hello fellow anglers, welcome to Labor Day weekend. As we know from all of the smoke in the California and Nevada skies, we have to be fire aware, wherever your adventure takes you this weekend.

Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Steam train rides in Carson City and Virginia City will be available Saturday through Sunday. The Carson Canyon Railbike Tours will run four times over the next three days, bringing excitement unlike any other. Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe will open two hours early beginning at 6 a.m. to ease capacity and congestion. Combined with plenty of live music, Labor Day weekend will be a thrill! The Slink Fire burning south of Topaz Lake and two miles west of Coleville, Calif., reached 14,200 acres early Thursday and was 10 percent contained, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
