Good morning Carson City! It's finally starting to feel like Spring around here. The weather today is going to be another gorgeous day, sunny with highs of 56, a low of 28, and 52 percent humidity. On the schedule today we have a ton of wonderful events, from a live music benefit for the homeless, to pollinator workshops, a Roller Derby match, a Veteran's Remembrance Day celebration at Mills Park, and much more. There is something about the start of Spring that makes Sundays seem more pleasant; despite the fact that the weekend is on its downhill slide. There are always pleasant things to do in Carson City come rain, snow, wind or shine.

A trial date in April 2020 has been set for Wilber Martinez-Guzman, the 19-year-old accused of killing four people during a 10-day murder spree through Douglas and Washoe counties.

On Tuesday, Martinez-Guzman had an arraignment in Washoe County District Court, where he waived his right to a speedy trial. He pled not guilty to murdering four people in Reno and Gardnerville in January. He also pled not guilty for burglary and possession of stolen weapons.

An indictment was filed late Wednesday against the man accused of killing two Gardnerville area women and a South Reno couple in January. Prosecutors said Thursday they intend to seek the death penalty.

Accused murderer Wilber Martinez-Guzman will be tried on four murder counts. He's been charged with the murders of Connie Koontz, 56, and Sophia Renken, 74, both of the Gardnerville area, and Gerald, 82, and Sharon David, 80, of South Reno. The murder spree happened within a 10 day period.

Daylight Savings Time is about to begin, harkening the approach of Spring. Winter, though, continues its stubborn hold on the region, so bundle up this weekend in spite the extra hour of daylight. There's a chance of snow showers throughout the weekend with daytime highs only into the low 40s.

This Saturday is all about film appreciation around the area. The Carson City International Film Festival wraps up today inside the newly renovated Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, while the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival occurs at CVIC Hall in Minden.

Good morning, Carson City! A fresh layer of powdery new snow has fallen overnight, delighting Winter sports enthusiasts eager to get outside and play.

For those who aren't, consider taking occasion to shop for your Valentine under the warm, dry roof of the Carson Mall, which wraps up its weekend Valentine's Day Craft and Gift Fair.

A 66-year-old transient man was arrested at the Carson Mall Tuesday afternoon after harassing customers and staff members.

Deputies were dispatched to the mall on the report of a trespasser who was known to both deputies and mall staff. He had been trespassed numerous times previously, and received a citation less than a week prior at the mall for trespassing.

A man arrested Jan. 19 in Carson City has now been formally charged with murder in four slayings that happened earlier this month in Gardnerville and South Reno, according to district attorneys in Douglas and Washoe counties.

No high school on the planet has as many events regularly happening as that of Carson High School, and one of the biggest of the year, Winterfest, begins Feb. 1. This year, Leadership class has determined the theme will be Winterflix, a play on the popular Netflix streaming service that allows customers to watch a wide variety of award-winning TV shows, movies, documentaries, and more on thousands of internet-connected devices.
