‘Break a leg’ to the talented kids in Wild Horse Children’s Theater. Their newest production, ‘Junie B. Jones, Jr.' opens at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall tonight. The Reno Coin Club has returned to the Nevada State Museum for it’s annual National Coin Week celebration with lectures, demonstrations, and foreign coins for kids. It’s a BINGO kind of night. Hold onto your hats, Carson City, we’re in for a busy weekend. Several events over the last few weeks were re-scheduled due to weather: today you’ll find the make-up for The Greenhouse Project's Early Spring Plant Sale and the Carson High Safe Grad 5K Run/Walk. Get your Roller Derby fix with a scrimmage and a Junior Victory Rollers bout against Santa Cruz. The Bob Boldrick Theater at the Community Center is where you’ll find ‘Carson’s Got Talent.' Cheer on your favorite local performer and help raise funds for the Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels Program. You’ll have to keep reading, this is just the tip of the fun-time iceberg.

You’re going to have some choices to make today. Just how much fun are you looking for, and what kind? Live music takes over at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint, Bella Vita Bistro, Living the Good Life, and the Brewery Arts Center. Belly laughs can be found at Carson Comedy inside the Carson Nugget on Fridays and Saturdays. A Father-daughter dance at the High School in Dayton is sure to thrill some little princesses.

Well, the expected rain didn’t show up overnight, but that doesn’t mean it’s not on its way. The brand-new Friday morning walk with Muscle Powered is weather permitting and will meet at the Multi-purpose Athletic Center instead of Fuji Park if it’s wet out. You’ll notice a sea of blue downtown after noon as the annual pinwheel planting for Child Abuse Awareness takes place; the community is welcomed to lend a hand. It’s aviation night at the Children’s Museum with paper airplanes and pilots on the agenda.

Easter weekend is just hours away. Born in Texas and raised in Augusta, Georgia, Billy Anderson is stand-up comedian currently living in Los Angeles. Billy has written for Cracked.Com, performed in SF Sketchfest, was a finalist in the 2016 Seattle International Comedy Competition and as of 2013 he has performed stand-up comedy in every US state. Billy can be heard on Audibles Sounds Like America hosted by Jackie Kashian and seen on season 3 of the syndicated program Laughs on Fox television. In 2017 he released his first live comedy special titled Americas Sweetheart through The Harmon Brothers VidAngel Dry Bar Comedy series.

We aren’t expecting any rain today, but weather control is well above my pay-grade. The recent downpour filled a few reservoirs around town, including the one at the corner of Roop Street and Little Lane.

This Friday, March 23, the Carson Comedy Club Presents Comedian Ronn Vigh. Early in his career, Ronn Vigh's brash attitude and acerbic wit earned him a comparison to a young Joan Rivers by the SF Weekly. It was certainly a fitting comparison as Ronn later became a writer for Rivers on her hit E!

Okay. This is one of the hardest weekend lists I’ve ever had to do. This dump of snow has cancelled some events, but others are in full force. Best I can tell, St. Patrick’s Day parties are not deterred by a little snowfall. There will be no parade in Virginia City, but the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest is on. Head to downtown Carson for more green beer, Irish music, and corned beef and cabbage than you’ll know what to do with.

Winter may be showing up fashionably late, but she was certain to make an entrance. Schools in Carson City are closed due to the snowfall we received last night, but Carson Valley and Lyon County schools will be open. For the kids of Youth Theater Carson City: the show must go on.

The Carson Comedy Club Presents two days of the Comedian Heath Harmison, March 16-17, 2018. Heath is one of the brightest new comedians out there. His PG-13 style of comedy kills in clubs, colleges, and festivals including the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The week winds down, but the happenings in Carson City are gearing up. Kids are going to have a fun time at the Carson Montessori Carnival Night. Help Relay for Life kick-off this year’s theme during their ‘Surfing for a Cure’ Luau at the Casino Fandango; you’ll have the opportunity to sign up your team, as well. No whining allowed, just fun times, at the Governor’s Mansion during tonight’s 'Let’s Wine Together' silent auction and wine fundraiser for the Carson High Band program.

Join us this Friday, March 9 as Carson Comedy Club will present Mary Kennedy. Mary E. Kennedy, is a Boston native, comedian, and professional actress. You can see her as the new recurring character New Fiona on Shameless Season 7, movies such as Shattered and Creative Differences. She also was recurring on NBCs ER as Officer Trudy Lange for Season 12.

The snow finally fell, and continues to fall. The Carson City and Douglas County School Districts have closed all schools due to the weather; Lyon County Schools are on a two hour delay. If you do have to head out, give yourself extra time to travel. Take a look in today’s happenings for family friendly options at the Carson Library or the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. A celebration of new art exhibits and local artists can be found at the Carson City Art Gallery, in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, and in the Brewery Arts Center.

It’s been a cold week, and today is no exception, but you can have a hot time tonight. Live music, comedy, and karaoke are just some of your nightlife options. It’s family BINGO and Chili night at Carson Middle School: get some grub, maybe win one of the great prizes, and help the CMS Band Program raise funds. Dayton has a BINGO night of its own. Head to Dayton High School to get in on the action. It’s opening night for the Proscenium Players. Their production of ‘Love Letters’ runs for one weekend only, so get your tickets early. Give it up for Todd Johnson, headlining at the Carson Comedy Club in Carson City this Friday, Feb. 23 at 8 p.m.

Todd, native to Idaho, has performed all over the US and Canada. In 2012, He was Runner Up in the Big Sky Comedy Competition. In 2011, he participated in the Aspen Comedy Festival and was asked back the Host the Best of the Fest of 2011 in Aspen Colorado. Todd was a finalist of the 29th International Seattle Comedy Competition in 2008.

Gong hei fat choy, Carson City. Today kicks off the Asian New Year, the Year of the Dog. Explore a new culture at the International Film Festival at the Community Center. The afternoon offers independent documentaries, and this evening brings a renown Mexican Film about the life and times of iconic actor and comedian, Mario Moreno. Take a gander at the newly refreshed Carson City Library during their Grand Re-opening celebration. Start your weekend with some comedy, live music, swing dancing, or karaoke.

This Friday, Feb. 16, the Carson Comedy Club Presents Comedian Ellis Rodriguez. Born in Boston, Ellis Rodriguez is by far the funniest of nine children raised by loving immigrant parents from Panama.

Carson City Parks and Recreation is stepping up to the plate with pizza and a movie if you are looking for a way to get out without the kids in tow. You’ll want to register for Parent’s Night Out before all the spaces are filled. Hit the town and discover what new restaurants have popped up this last year. Enjoy live music at Living the Good Life, Bela Vita Bistro, or at the historic Genoa Bar. Teens are welcome at the Boys and Girls Club for a night of dancing, music, and a chance at raffle prizes.

FRIDAY, Feb. 9: Things to do in Carson City

February is jumping right in. Join CCAI in celebrating the newest Courthouse Gallery exhibit: ‘Writing from Mars’ by Rick Parsons opens today with a reception at 5 p.m. Le Cirque Vagabond brings their rock sideshow revue, Asylum, to the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall for a special performance; no one under 18 will be admitted. Choose from a number of venues hosting bands, karaoke, or DJs for a fun night out. If you’d like to be a performer yourself, consider auditioning for PPI’s newest venture, The Producers.

Marc is an award-winning comedian featured on the Showtime special, Goin Native: The American Indian Comedy Slam. Marc has also been seen on the PBS special, Crossing The Line, SiTVs, The Latino Laugh Festival and Comics Unleashed With Byron Allen.

It is finally Friday, so let’s kick off the weekend. Start the day at Dunkin Donuts on Highway 50 and you’ll be treated to some free coffee, samples, and giveaways. Kids will have a great time during Books and Brags Storytime Adventures at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. The 19th annual Senior Fair at the Douglas County Community Center offers up a plethora of information, and is open to the public, no matter your age. The Carson Comedy Club Presents Comedian Alex Elkin this Friday, Jan. 26 at the Carson Nugget in Carson City. He started his comedy career in the clubs of Hollywood California before he was old enough to be allowed in the front door.

At age 18 he took on the wilds of the Jungle Cruise as a skipper for the Disneyland Resort cracking jokes on and off the boat. He was selected as a finalist in the Laugh Factorys International Donald Trump Impersonator contest.

You’ll be ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ all weekend; Youth Theater Carson City’s final weekend of performances is sure to bring down the house. The Monks of the Gaden Shartse Monastery will teach a Tibetan Calligraphy and Butter Sculpture Workshop and hold a Vajravidarin Healing Ritual in the Brewery Arts Center today. FRIDAY, Jan. 19: Things to do in Carson City

The Carson Comedy Club Presents Comedian Kathleen Dunbar at the Carson Nugget this Friday, Jan. 19. Kathleen Dunbar was the winner of The Las Vegas Comedy Festival and voted Vegas Favorite Comedian. In 2005 the Entertainment Consumers Exchange awarded the Excellence in Entertainment Sunrise Award.

They awarded her again in 2006 and 2007 with the Favorite Comedian award. She has made her mark in Las Vegas and around in casinos and comedy clubs across country. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin this comic has Midwest values and ideals.

Earlier this week, we were all 'Singing in the Rain,' but tonight the talented kids of Youth Theater Carson City open up the entertaining musical on the Carson City Community Center's stage. New eatery, Bella Vita Bistro in the Carson Mall, brings local singer, Dougie L in to entertain the dinner crowd. Funnyman, Joshua Fonokalafi, headlines at Carson Comedy inside the Nugget; get there early for dinner and drinks and make it a date night. Read on for even more Friday happenings.

FRIDAY, Jan. 12: Things to do in Carson City

Joshua T. Fonokalafi is a Utah-based comedian from the mean streets of Ogden, Utah’s own Compton.

Raised in the northwest and the son of an Islander immigrant, Joshua tells of his hardships growing up as one of the biggest minorities in the country.

We have survived the first week of 2018, and that deserves some celebration. Put a smile on your face at the Brewery Arts Center: their monthly improv night will have you in stitches. Ev Musselman of the Trippin King Snakes takes the stage at Living the Good Life and will have you on the dance floor. Meet artist Carrie White at the Carson City Art Gallery. Emma Arnold is America's fiercest sweetheart. Equal parts outrageous and thoughtful, her stand-up comedy is engaging, honest, and comes from the heart. Emma is a third generation beekeeper and honey farmer. She is the co-founder and artistic director of the 208 Comedyfest, as well as the co-director of Comedyfort (part of the Treefort Festival), and her debut comedy album, "Shut Up, Calvin" is available from Rooftop Comedy. When not touring, Emma lives in Idaho, where she keeps kids and bees with varying degrees of success.
