The Carson Area Marketing & PR Network (CAMPN) meets at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7 at the Business Resource Innovation Center (BRIC) building at 108 E. Proctor Street in Carson City. The meeting is free and non-members who are marketing, PR, or journalism professionals may attend with advance notice.

When we were young it was always the field trip that got us out of the classroom to see for ourselves what our teachers wanted us to learn. With holidays around the corner, a number of Carson City lodging establishments have built-in deals and specials for travelers to the capital city.

Even though it remains among the least expensive holiday meal, the retail cost of menu items for a classic Thanksgiving dinner including turkey, stuffing, cranberries, pumpkin pie and all the basic trimmings increased about 13 percent this year, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation.
The Bureau’s annual Thanksgiving dinner price survey shows the average cost of 2011′s feast for 10 is $49.20, a $5.73 price increase from 2010’s average of $43.47. The survey shopping list includes turkey, bread stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, a relish tray of carrots and celery, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, and beverages of coffee and milk, all in quantities sufficient to serve a family of 10.

Six weeks after tickets went on sale, The Polar Express™ has officially sold out, according to the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau.
More than 7,500 riders will board the magical holiday train on the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, the only officially licensed Polar Express event in the region this holiday season.

The folks over at Virginia and Truckee Railroad (the V&T) and the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau are giving away a pair of tickets for the Polar Express train that will run on Saturday, Nov 26, at 8:30 p.m. If you're on Facebook, hit the "like" button and write what you would name Santa's 10th reindeer. A winner will be picked on Thursday, Nov. 17 at noon.

What started at the turn of the century as an effort to gain a day of recognition for the significant contributions the first Americans made to the establishment and growth of the U.S., is now recognized in November as Native American Heritage Month. Nevada particularly has a rich Native American history, with three tribes — the Washoe, Paiutes and Sho-sho-ne — as being among the first when Europeans visited the area.

The Northern Nevada premiere of Phantom of the Opera, Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic tale of forbidden love, will arrive at the Carson City Community Center during weekends in early November, according to the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The production will appear Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 4 - 20 at 2 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18-22 and may be purchased by phone or in person at the Performing Arts Office of Western Nevada College, 775-445-4249. Parking is free.

It only takes four days to celebrate statehood in Nevada. The Silver State knows how to party! The annual Carson City Nevada Day events will observe the 147th year since joining the union, with the theme, “Nevada's Great Outdoors,” Oct. 27-30, 2011.

A four-day celebration of the Silver State's admission to the Union in 1864 will be celebrated the last weekend in October in Nevada's state capitol of Carson City.

Calling all wing lovers, the Great International Chicken Wing Society presents Carson City’s first Wing-Off at Carson Station Casino, Friday through Sunday.
