Events around the Carson City area for Sunday, Oct. 20

Sunday will bring cool temperatures and some sunshine with daytime highs in the mid 60s around the capital city region. Lined up today are fall train rides in Carson City and Virginia City, a women veteran's support group meeting, and a a discussion with survivors, family and doctors about metastatic breast cancer. Also today, the Carson City Symphony will open its 36th season at the community center. Enjoy.

Family train rides in Carson City, Virginia City plus ghost walk, art fair and lots of pumpkins as region readies for busy weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include Harvest Train festivities at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Thomas the Tank Engine and steam train rides in Virginia City, the first-ever Gandy Dance in Dayton, October Ghost Walk Tours through downtown Carson City and more!

Beyond the Pink: Speakers to discuss metastatic breast cancer this Sunday at Carson Tahoe

The statistics are staggering. Thirty percent of the people diagnosed with breast cancer go on to get metastatic breast cancer.

Metastatic beast cancer is an incurable disease. It is when breast cancer has spread beyond the breast, possibly to the lymph nodes or other organs in the body. Around 40,000 people a year in the US die from it. It is the advanced part of breast cancer and it is rarely discussed.

Capital City and CTH 'Think Pink' for breast cancer awareness Tuesday at Red's Old 395 Grill

With October designated Breast Cancer Awareness Month, dozens joined Carson Tahoe Health for its 18th "Think Pink" breast cancer awareness event held Tuesday at Red's Old 395 Grill in Carson City, which hosts and sponsors the annual event.

Relay For Life event brings cancer awareness to Mills Park in Carson City

Carson City, Douglas County, the American Cancer Society, and much of the community teamed up Saturday to participate in the 2018 Relay For Life at Mills Park in Carson City.

Carson Tahoe Cancer Center co-hosts fly-fishing retreat for patients

Cancer patients were treated Friday morning to a fly-fishing retreat in Gardnerville co-hosted by Carson Tahoe Cancer Center and Casting For Recovery, a national organization that has been funding outdoor events for cancer patients over the past two decades.

Cancer Survivor Focus Group

Join us for a Focus Group discussion in Carson Valley, Nevada. We want to hear about your experiences during and after treatment to better understand the needs of cancer survivors and to help develop resources and programs to meet those needs. All survivors, including those currently living with cancer, are invited to participate. Location is the East Fork Fire Station #12, 3620 N. Sunridge Dr.; Carson City, Nevada from 5:30PM - 7:30PM. You must enroll to participate and enrollment for this session is open thru February 16, 2017.

National Cancer Survivor's Day

Carson City Sheriff's Office seeks Relay for Life walkers, runners for team

On Saturday July 11th, 2015, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” to be held at Mill’s Park from noon to midnight. Team leaders Chief Sharon Daniels and Deputy Kip Lee who are recovering cancer survivors are looking for additional walkers and runners to join their team during this most worthwhile event.

The event kicks off at noon with featured speakers including Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, a cancer survivor. Music for the Opening Ceremony will be by The Whiskey Heroes with the Luminary Ceremony featuring Carson City singer Molly Seals beginning at 9 p.m.

Local H2O at Home Independent Advisor to donate October commission to Breast Cancer Fund

Minden, Nev. – Local H2O at Home® Independent Advisor, Pamela Mann, is donating her commission made from her H2O at Home® sales in October to Breast Cancer Fund.

Mann has donated her October commission for the past three years to Breast Cancer Fund in memory of her mother who passed away from breast cancer in 2013.

Cancer Program Achieves First Gold Level Rating in Nevada

CARSON CITY — Carson Tahoe Health announces that the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons granted a three-year renewal of accreditation to the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. The surveyors awarded seven extra commendations for exceeding industry standards, making CTCC the first cancer center in Nevada to achieve a “gold level” designation.

Carson City Relay for Life 2011

Create more birthdays for cancer survivors by joining hundreds of thousands of people in cities across the nation to raise money for cancer research with Carson City's Relay for Life 2011. Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's major annual fundraising event. Carson City will celebrate, remember and fight back this year at Centennial Park on Saturday, July 16 at 10:00 am. Teams now forming for Carson City’s Relay For Life

Carson City area walkers will go around the clock in the battle against cancer during the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

This celebration brings together numerous groups and individuals concerned about cancer in a unified effort to fight back.

Teams of enthusiastic residents will gather at Centennial Field for an overnight relay from 10am July 16th to 10am July 17th. The event celebrates anyone who has battled cancer and their caregivers and also remembers loved ones lost.

Project Pink

We are bringing mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends together to learn from the experts about how breast cancer effects family risk factors. Sponsored by The Safeway Foundation, PROJECT PINK 2010 is designed to target women who have had breast cancer or who have an immediate family member with breast cancer.
