Although Veterans Day was observed yesterday, there are several things today that honor our former members of the military. Battle Born Harley Davidson is throwing an appreciation party complete with food trucks. Virginia City’s annual Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. and the City of Reno will commence their parade after a short ceremony beginning at 11:11 a.m. You’ll find an abundance of craft fairs in Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton. As home and commercial burglaries fall sharply in Carson City, residents urged to remain vigilant

Carson City is seeing some of the lowest crimes rates we have experienced in years to include a 30 percent reduction in residential burglaries and 29 percent reduction in commercial burglaries just this year alone.

While we are working hard on solving the thefts and burglaries that have already occurred, we are always looking to improve on how to prevent them from occurring to begin with.

Carson City man jailed after allegedly breaking into uncle’s residence

A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday in the 200 block of Gardengate Way for suspicion of felony burglary, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

RPD Report: Dayton man had marijuana in system, at fault in June fatal crash with NHP Trooper

A Dayton man who died in a June 5, 2017 crash that involved a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper on US50 in Lyon County failed to maintain his lane when operating his 1999 BMW and is found to be at fault in the crash, according to Reno Police Department’s M.A.I.T. investigators in their final report released Wednesday.

One might think that the end of summer means that the fun times are over: they would be wrong. This list of happenings in the Carson City area isn’t getting any shorter. The annual Genoa Candy Dance is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, and this weekend welcomes the first ever Silver State Arts Festival at Fuji Park, as well. The first ever Community Garage Sale at the Community Center offers one-stop bargain hunting. Swing into the season at the monthly dance party hosted by the High Sierra Swing Dance Club.

The great thing about Labor Day weekend is that it just keeps going. The Best in the West Rib Cook-off offers up family fun, live music, and plenty of bar-be-qued delights all the way through Monday. For those with younger kids, consider a day at Mills Park. This is the last weekend for summertime train rides through the cottonwoods. Join Muscle Powered at Silver Saddle Ranch by the Carson River for a bike or hike this morning. Bring water and a camera, you never know what wildlife will make an appearance.

The Carson City Fair gathers steam today: they’ll be setting up the carnival, judging the items in the exhibit hall, and the 4-H kids are showing off what their dogs can do. It’s a play-doh afternoon at the Carson City Library, in addition to their weekly Pajama Story time on Tuesday evenings. The Carson Nugget is hosting a job fair to fill a plethora of positions in their restaurants and on the casino floor.

Carson City arrests: Vehicle owner calls cops, holds burglary suspect at gunpoint

A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Tuesday morning and faces felony burglary and other charges after a homeowner caught the suspect breaking into his vehicle, holding him at gunpoint until sheriff’s deputies arrived.
