The Sacred Arts of Tibet Tour has brought the monks of the Gaden Shartse Phukhang Monastery back to the Brewery Arts Center; today they’ll perform a tea offering and give a presentation on happiness. Negroni week kicks off today at the Firkin and Fox, but several local bars are participating in this fundraiser.

What a week. Granted, it was a short one, but school got out for the summer and we saw the weather go from a wintery chill to summery hot. Get your early primary vote in this afternoon, then stick around for the Artist Reception for the new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery upstairs in the Courthouse Building. Live music can be found at our bigger casinos, and a dj will keep you on the dance floor at Jimmy G’s, Alatte in the Carson Nugget, and Living the Good Life. Sassafras welcomes Bryan McPherson to the stage at 8 pm; you’ll want to get there earlier to take full advantage of their menu.

June is Bike Month in Carson City, and the weather is being more than cooperative. Bike to work week begins Monday, so get back in the swing of things with the Muscle Powered Bike Ride this afternoon. If motorcycles are more your style, Bike Night at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar is the place to be. Don’t forget to stick around for karaoke.

Whoo-hoo Wednesday. June First brings the inaugural Wednesday Evening Farmers Market to downtown. Look for it at Third Street after 4 p.m. The Battle of the Badges Blood Drive is at the Community Center: the Sheriff’s Office vs. the Fire Department. Help Comma Coffee welcome a new artist to their Backseat Gallery this evening: every first Wednesday you can a attend their artist reception. Sing a song for summer at Crossroads: J and M Productions hosts karaoke tonight.

Not going to lie, I'm a lover of June. Not only is it unequivocally summer, it is also my birthday month. So today we say a fond farewell to May and the bizarre winter/spring/winter/summer weather that came with it. Early voting for the primary is underway at the Clerk's office in the Courthouse. Get out and explore the history of the west side of town with the Parks and Recreation easy walk. Head out to the archery range and learn to shoot a bow. Swing dance, line dance, and fire dancing are all out there for you to explore.

Today we remember those who have fallen while defending our country. The Historic Stewart Cemetery on Snyder will feature a ceremony at 10 a.m. Lone Mountain Cemetery hosts a ceremony at 1 p.m. and the public is invited to help remove the several hundred flags that were placed on the graves of veterans at 4 p.m. Dayton Cemetery holds their service at 9 a.m. Enjoy a free bar-be-que at Evergreen Gene’s. MONDAY: Memorial Day

Midnight Madness has descended upon the valley, bringing with it a 72 hour softball tournament at Centennial Park. Don’t be surprised to see more cyclists on the road: an unofficial pre-ride for Epic Rides is this weekend. Head to the Nevada State Railroad Museum to see the Glenbrook all steamed up. SATURDAY:

A few days left of school, a few days left of May: summer is knocking on the door and insisting to be let in. If only it would bring some sunshine with it, we’d be set. Get the weekend started with a good time downtown: Stereo Galaxy at Westside Pour House, comedy at the Nugget, and a DJ at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar. Party 80s style at Whiskey Tavern’s karaoke party. Minden kicks off a summer of Concerts in the Park tonight with a tribute to the Beatles.

Campfires and bar-be-ques are just around the corner: Memorial Day weekend is almost here. Get a jump on the fun with some live music at Living the Good Life or Glen Eagles. Learn something new with Dr. Hattori at the Nevada State Museum. An improv workshop at the Brewery Arts Center will get your creative juices flowing. The Capitol Amphitheater is where you’ll enjoy a new spin on the Taming of the Shrew, performed by the Carson High Theater Arts Department. Don’t forget a doggie-bag after a meal at Adele’s today: the Bone Appetit fundraiser for the Nevada Humane Society goes on all day.

Spring fever is upon many of us, probably worst of all among the school kids. Let the Carson High School bands and theater program show off their stuff one last time before the end of the year; you'll find them at the Community Center at 7 p.m. It's also the time of year that sees more walkers and bicyclists on our sidewalks and roadways. Join Muscle Powered this evening as they participate in the 13th Annual Ride of Silence to remember those who have been hurt or killed while riding on public streets.

What a weekend. As the days get longer, the whole valley bustles. Monday has returned, but no fear, there is still fun to be found. Karaoke at Firkin and Fox is a great way to start off the week. Grab your dancing shoes and head to El Charro to learn some new moves with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club. Grab the kids for a night of board games at Nerdvana. For games meant for a more adult audience, the Carson Cigar Company hosts a weekly game night with drink specials for the players.

If you were looking for a lazy day, today might not be it. Carson City BMX welcomes moms to the track today; their Mother’s Day race was postponed due to the wet weather. Ready to have some fun? Virginia City’s Chili on the Comstock Cook-off goes on all weekend. For some healthier fare, hit up the Spring Farmers Market downtown. Go fly a kite at Dangberg Home Historic Park, just past Douglas High School on Highway 88; their ‘Something in the Wind’ Celebration is both Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget to leave non-perishable food by your mailbox: the annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive is today. The American Sign Language Club at Western Nevada College invites you to an evening of storytelling, poetry, music, and fun at their ‘Open Hands Night.’ Empire Ranch is starting up its 9 and Dine events tomorrow, the only catch is that you’ve got to register by noon today. You’ll find dinner music at Glen Eagles, Sassafras, and Living the Good Life.

Throw a little sunshine my way and I start thinking about Lake Tahoe. Pints and Paddles, the happy hour cruise aboard the M.S. Dixie, has returned to Zephyr Cove. Break up the workday with a stroll along the Wellness Trail: the Wednesday walkers begin at noon if you’d like company. Living the Good Life features great food, fun bartenders, and tonight a Jazz Jam lead by Rocky and Judith. Sassafras lives up to its Eclectic Food Joint reputation again: The Moody Motion Tour featuring Cryptic Wisdom, Whiteout, and Jack The Ripper hits the stage tonight.

I think we are all learning to take advantage of sunny spring days when they arrive. Appreciate the new blooms as you explore the historic downtown as part of a City-sponsored scavenger hunt. The Mile High Jazz Band takes over Comma Coffee tonight with Merry May Jazz. Learn the ins and outs of fire spinning if you head to the Controlled Burn Community Practice at A to Zen. Let the Carson Chamber Singers transport you to Broadway: their spring concert is tonight at St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

TUESDAY:

Today’s sky has something special going on. A transition of Mercury across the sun occurs from sunrise until about noon. Please do not attempt to watch it without protective eyewear (sunglasses are not enough.) Head to the WNC Observatory to take a look, or watch it online HERE. Early risers can also take advantage of a chat with Supervisor Jim Shirk at Grandma Hattie’s.

Much love to the Mothers in our valley, and those that we love like Mothers. Treat that special lady to a day at the Carson Hot Springs. She gets to ride free with a child at the RSVP Spring Carnival. Travel to Virginia City and back on the historic Virginia and Truckee Steam Train. SUNDAY: Mother’s Day

I am not even going to attempt guessing what weather we have in store. The west side of the Sierras are notoriously unpredictable. You are much better off betting on the Kentucky Derby; and the Firkin and Fox is just the place to cheer on your favorite horse.

Nothing will rain on our parade, Carson City. In addition to the monthly wine walk, the weekend offers a carnival, train rides, the Kentucky Derby, Mother’s Day and more. Tonight, Western Nevada Musical Theater Company debuts their spring musical ‘42nd Street.’ Find improv at the Brewery Arts Center or Comedy at the Carson Nugget. Drinking with Clowns hits the stage at Sassafras and Motown is on the menu at Living the Good Life. Food with friends is in order at Silver City’s Community Dinner Night or at A to Zen’s first ‘Fancy Friday’ open mic night.

The weekend is getting started early. Cinco de Mayo brings out drink specials, parties, and fun throughout the valley. Don’t forget that Mother’s Day is on Sunday, so head to Carson Mall for something special or swing by the Elks Club after 4 p.m. to grab tickets for their Champagne Brunch. The RSVP Spring Carnival kicks off tonight with family night: all rides are a dollar.
