Fifteen days of non-stop music begins tonight at the Bliss Mansion with the Jazz and Beyond Garden Party; don’t miss out on the fabulous art show, tours of the historic home, and great jams. Downtown will be rocking tonight as the Carson High Class of 86 celebrates their reunion in Telegraph Square with two live bands. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Just down the street, Living the Good Life welcomes Southbound Train followed by DJ Bobby G. Fuji Park is the place to be for cowboys, broncs, and a great concert celebrating Carson City.

Wine walk weekend is almost upon us, along with the kick-off of the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival featuring more than 100 musicians in over 60 events in just fifteen days. Hot August Nights is heating up and will be stopping at Minden Park for their Poker Run lunch. Sing your heart out during karaoke at Living the Good Life or Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar. Join Muscle Powered on an early morning hike to Secret Harbor or a late afternoon bike ride.

Welcome to Wednesday, Carson City. The week keeps on rolling along and every day brings some new kind of fun. Kick up your heels at Carson Lanes: Country Line dance lessons tonight. Westside Pour House hosts the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz each week; it’s a great excuse to grab some friends and fight for bragging rights. The launch party of ‘The Studio’ at the Adams Hub on Proctor Street invites you tour the building, learn about the incubator’s resources, meet some of Carson’s movers and shakers, and enjoy some treats.

Holy Tuesday, Batman! Today is jam-packed full of options around our valley. A walk with Parks and Rec, a movie viewing with the Classic Cinema Club, and life-sized board games at the Library are all on the docket for today. The big story, of course, is National Night Out with the Carson City Sheriff's Department. Free food, activities, fun, and even an aircraft or two descend on Mills Park for the annual party.

August means many things: Hot August Nights, the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, the return of football, and the last few weeks of summer vacation. The construction downtown is showing signs of advancement with the recent completion of the Bob McFadden Plaza.

I can understand if your plans for the weekend include sitting half-naked in front of a swamp cooler with an icy beverage. It has been quite roasty these last few days. Let me, however, attempt to lure you out with this weekend’s event list; there is plenty of fun to be found around the valley. Some of your options even include air conditioning and icy beverages.

SATURDAY:

Living in the dusty, dry high desert means that we escape cancerous car rot. Additionally, it’s probably the reason that Northern Nevada is a mecca for classic cars and the shows that celebrate them. The Silver Dollar Classic Car Show has long been Carson’s kick off to the hot, melty August nights that follow – the Max Casino is where it all begins. Head to Red’s Old 395 for an appreciation party to those who fight our wild fires and say a hello to Smokey the Bear. Trey Stone makes an appearance at Living the Good Life and Whiskey Tavern welcomes you to their karaoke stage.

Summer is in full blaze out there. Treat yourself to something cold at Dairy Queen; their Miracle Treat Day donates a dollar per Blizzard to the Miracle Children’s Hospitals. See what the talented kids of Strings in the Schools have been up to this summer at their free concert inside the Carson Mall. ‘Always Lost: A Meditation on War’ is an art exhibit from Western Nevada College that has travelled the country.

Happy Wednesday, Carson City. Enjoy America’s pastime tonight at the Aces Stadium and help raise money for the Carson City Library; just pick up your ticket voucher at Browser’s Corner Book Store. Casino Fandango is airing the 1968 classic, Planet of the Apes, today at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Kick off a weekend full of classic cars with Cruise Night at the Carson Mall with food trucks, kids activities, and more. Westside Pour House is the new home of the weekly ‘Geeks Who Drink’ Pub Quiz, so gather your smartest friends for a fun night of trivia, libations, and good food.

Happy Tuesday, Carson City. Today’s happenings include country line dancing at Carson Lanes and swing dance at El Charro Avita. Take a walk with Carson Parks and Recreation along the Carson River by Morgan Mill. Dinner at Firehouse Subs tonight will help raise money for the Carson City Relay for Life. Ladies may want to join in on the Muscle Powered Bike Ride to Ash Canyon. London artist, Stewart Easton hosts an embroidery workshop at the Silver City Schoolhouse. TUESDAY:

Get thee to a gallery! Carson City has three art exhibits in their last week of viewing: the Spirit of America Show at the Nevada Artist Association Gallery, ‘Vantage Point of Distance’ by Dave Rowe at the Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery, and ‘Always Lost: A Meditation on War’ on display in the Western Nevada College Gallery. This week will also see receptions for two of those exhibits. The Nevada Arts Council welcomes Dave Rowe on Tuesday.

Sunday is the last chance for celebrity sightings at Edgewood Golf Resort in at south shore Lake Tahoe as the American Century Celebrity Championship tournament comes to a close. Learn about the legacy of Douglas County’s Dangberg family from the rancher’s grandson, author Steve Archard. Locals enjoy a special price on the Virginia and Truckee steam train, or the McKeen Motor car at the Nevada Railroad Museum.

SUNDAY:

I really hope I’m not required to choose a favorite event. I would be hard pressed to choose between the Nevada Day Parade and the annual Taste of Downtown. Luckily, I can adore them both, and for much the same reason. They are a celebration of community, of Carson City, of our historic downtown and all that it has to offer. In addition to 'The Taste', the Brewery Arts Center goes country with the Southern Drawl Band on its outdoor stage, and Madam Curry leads another downtown Ghost Walk. Dress as your favorite superhero for Gardnerville’s Thirsty Third Thursday Wine Walk. Enjoy ice cream and a concert by the Capital City Community Band at the First United Methodist Church on Musser St. Close out the evening with karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar.

I'm chomping at the bit for Saturday: the Taste of Downtown is almost here. It is one of my absolute favorite events, and one of the most delicious. Grab your tickets at Classy Seconds Thrift Store or the Purple Avocado. A jazz jam with Tom Stryker at Living the Good Life is a great way to soothe the soul.

I am quite fond of Tuesdays. For a weekday, they usually have some great offerings. Today's Easy Walk with the Parks and Recreation Department takes you along the Moffat Open Space on the east side of town. The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada offers 'Books and Brags', essentially a story with craft time. Have a hot time with the fire-dancers of Controlled Burn: they meet at A to Zen on Tuesdays and welcome newcomers.

TUESDAY:

Have you been to a Reno Aces game yet? You may as well go tonight, help raise money for our local Boys and Girls Club, and enjoy America’s pastime. Go HERE to order tickets. Learn more about our community at the Carson City Library this evening; special guests from the Brewery Arts Center will explain what the center has to offer. If you’re looking for something family friendly, Carson Lanes won’t break the bank. Games only cost $1 per person all day long.

Summer nights were made for outdoor concerts. Bring a chair and enjoy All Hat, No Cattle at Dangberg Home Ranch Historical Park. The annual Reno Corvette Club Show and Shine will give you something to drool over. If you’ve got kids, Frozen is tonight’s choice for the Carson Library movie night. Classic car aficionados should head to Bully’s if they want to join in this week’s Silver Dollar Cruise Night.

THURSDAY:

It’s going to be a beautiful, sunshiny day in Carson City. After a couple of cool, breezy days, the temperatures are returning to the 90s. If this is a beach day, consider sticking around for the Pints and Paddles Cruise on the MS Dixie in Zephyr Cove. Head downtown for some yummy goodness; today’s Farmers Market runs from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Living the Good Life welcomes Rocky and Judith to the stage. Crossroads Lounge is the place to be for all you karaoke lovers out there.

Happy Tuesday, Carson City. The Carson Library is offering a craft project this afternoon, and 'What's Up in your Community' this evening, so it's not a bad place to park yourself for the day and beat the heat. It is the eleventh day of the seventh month and that means free slurpee day at 7-Eleven. There are few better ways to celebrate a sunny, summer day than with a cold, slushy beverage. Head over to the Carson Library for a fun adventure into science with ‘Up, Up, and Away’: smoke rings, hot air balloons, and more. The members of the High Desert Swing Dance Club get together on Monday at El Charro Avita to dance the night away.

The weather may be cooler, but the chili is hot. Head to Glen Eagles for the final day of the Chili competition. Enjoy a picnic and a free concert in Genoa: the Sagebrush Rebellion performs at 5 p.m. If you’re dreaming of snow, then the lecture on legendary Tahoe winters might just get you through the day.
