Storey begins work on $2.12 million water line project; highlights $20M on improvements

VIRGINIA CITY — Storey County broke ground Wednesday on a $2.1 million water project to replace a water line originally built in the 1870s. Over 1,450 feet of new water main will be constructed to connect Virginia City to the 5-mile Reservoir.

Governor Sandoval backs Nevada unemployment rate decrease recommendation

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval made the following statement Wednesday after the state’s Employment Security Council met and recommended a decrease in the unemployment insurance rate paid by employers in Nevada.

Question 6 in the coming election asks whether Nevada’s Constitution shall be amended to require that, beginning in 2022, all Nevada sellers of retail electricity increase the amount of “renewable” energy resources they use so that at least 50 percent of their electricity comes from those resources by 2030.

We have long supported increasing diversity in energy supplies via economic development of renewables. But the mandates proposed by Question 6 are a big mistake and we strongly counsel voting against it.
