Like millions of college students across the country, Western Nevada College students have faced rapid change as they’ve quickly adjusted to learning remotely. In March, WNC responded immediately to threats posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

South Lake Tahoe City Council directed City staff Thursday to hold off on issuing the $1,000 fines for non-essential travelers or businesses until Council brings this issue back at their June 9 meeting for further consideration.

Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe is reopening over the Memorial Day weekend and having a four-day locals-emphasis celebration after being closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The event has been scaled back from previous years as city and state officials grapple with phase 2 reopening, which allows second-home property owners living outside the area to return to the California side of South Lake Tahoe, but not allowing for non-essential travel and visitors.

A 32-year-old Redding, Calif. man was arrested in the area of College Parkway Thursday night for felony battery with a deadly weapon, an assault with a deadly weapon warrant, and a domestic battery warrant.

Skyler Shane Smith was arrested after deputies responded to the area after an anonymous caller stated a fight was going on between two men in a parking lot.

RENO - Based on processed applications as of May 13, 2020, Nevada State Bank has announced approval for 4,255 U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans totaling $592,005,500.

More than 68% of the loans were made to businesses with fewer than 10 employees and approximately 82% of the loans approved were for amounts less than $150,000 (57% for amounts less than $50,000). The funding will help preserve payrolls for 65,607 Nevada jobs, based on applicant data.

CARSON CITY — Nearly two dozen Carson High School Future Business Leaders of America students claimed more than 40 top-10 awards including five state championships at the Nevada State Business Leadership Conference.

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance totaled 28,550 for the week ending May 2, down 13,991 claims, or 32.9 percent compared to last week’s total of 42,541.
