It’s Presidents Day weekend with a Valentine’s Day cherry on top. There is still time for some shopping if you’re looking for something for your special someone. Several crafters, vendors, and shops make it easy to find something unique. The annual Feast of Chocolate returns to the Plaza Event Center; raising funds for scholarships has never tasted so good.

Senator Square: CHS English teacher and former student takes on weekly column

It is my pleasure to take over for Angila Golik as the new “Senator Square” column writer, which for me is right up there with winning an election, winning a game, and winning a prize in a contest all at the same time. Though I will not be reporting on cures for warts or offering advice on marriage, I will be delivering current news and upcoming events for Carson High School.

Graham's Word: Kaepernick is Lost, May Need Change....

Event Date:
October 29, 2015 (All day)

It is not rocket science — Colin Kaepernick is not a pocket passer. The 49ers have tried to turn him into something he is not and it has failed miserably. The organization can’t get that through their heads. Just ask Chris Ault who tried for about a week to make him stay in the pocket while at Nevada. It didn’t work and Ault saw that and subsequently told him to just “run first and pass second” mentality basically.

Carson High School Class of 2015 list of graduates

Here are the graduates of Carson High School, class of 2015. Looking outward to their message left at C Hill, the class of more than 400 walked proudly Saturday through the Carson City CHS football field. With the turn of the tassel and throw of their mortarboards, the students turned high school graduates. Congratulations, class of 2015.

Go here for photo highlights of the ceremony. The following students received high school diplomas Saturday:

WNC Baseball: Karnos, Bickford Put on PItching Show at CSN

Major League Baseball scouts coming out to see highly touted right-handed pitcher Phil Bickford on Thursday saw a couple of other arms to focus their radar guns on in Henderson.

Western Nevada College sophomore right-hander Max Karnos allowed just one hit through the first six innings and sophomore reliever Connor Zwetsch threw 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief as the Wildcats nearly handed Bickford his second defeat of the season.

WNC Baseball: Wildcats hit Bickford but fall to Coyotes

Phil Bickford and his history of being a top-10 selection in the 2013 Major League Baseball amateur draft didn't intimidate Western Nevada College hitters on Saturday in Carson City.
In fact, the Wildcats touched up the right-hander for two hits and a run before fans had completely settled into their seats at John L. Harvey Field.

WNC Baseball: Wildcats Come Back to Remain in First

Western Nevada College found its offense just in time Friday, preventing College of Southern Nevada from taking over first place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
The Wildcats plated two fifth-inning runs to tie the score and then tallied five runs after two were out in the sixth to pull out a 9-4 baseball victory to gain a doubleheader split at John L. Harvey Field in Carson City.

Carson Conquers Douglas In Wrestling Duel

The Carson High School Wrestling team made their way just south to Douglas High School for a Sierra League duel. The Carson Senators were coming into a tough Douglas environment as the Tigers are hosting their Winterfest week this week as well. The place was packed and the action was never seemed to really slow down in this match up.

CHS Announces Winterfest Royalty

Carson High School announced the names of the elite who will get to be called candidates and royalty for the school's annual Winterfest week. This year's candidates have come from all walks of life, but as it would appear they have come out on top of the student body. The king candidates are: Jake Jones, Seamus Burns, Brandon Allen, Daniel Cihigoyenetche and Brady Rivera. Colby Brown was also elected a king candidate as well, but had to withdraw due to prior commitments during the week.

Senator Square: Winterfest arrives at Carson High School this week

Winterfest is upon us here at Carson High School. The upcoming week will be filled with activites and celebrations for the students and staff at CHS. The theme of Winterfest is WinterFlix, like Netflix. Congratulations to the Winterfest Candidates who have been nominated by their classmates. Carson Tosses Wooster With Ease

On Wednesday, the Senators of Carson High School hosted the Colts of Wooster in the Carson's first home wrestling duel of the season. Carson was the heavy favorite to win from the very beginning thanks to forfeits in five weight classes and tradition has shown that the Senators are almost always favored to win at any duel thanks to Carson's ability produce consistently impressive wrestling teams.

Season kickoff Saturday for Carson High Senators

It’s only three days away from the first kickoff of the season for the Carson High School football squad. The first game will get underway Saturday against Clayton Valley High School in Concord, Calif., at 8 p.m. That game will be a very good game if Carson can step up to the plate. Clayton Valley is a very good team; however, with head coach Blair Roman’s focus on keeping the team in amazing physical condition and his sharp eye on what Clayton Valley does both offensively and defensively, I think it is a very achievable task to not only compete but win too.

WNC Baseball: Wildcats' Stolo and Harber among list of contributors in two wins

Little was going right for Western Nevada College in the second game of a baseball doubleheader Saturday in Carson City. The Wildcats’ bullpen was struggling to throw strikes, helping Colorado Northwestern build a 6-1 lead.

With ace Ben Wright frustrating Wildcat hitters, it seemed as if WNC’s chances of staying in hot pursuit of Scenic West Athletic Conference leader Salt Lake City were dimming.

Cody Hamlin scattered seven hits and struck out 10 and Joseph Crunkilton homered as Western Nevada College rallied for a 3-1 victory over Salt Lake in the Region 18 baseball tournament on Thursday in Henderson.

The victory sends the Wildcats (39-18) into a winners’ bracket matchup with tournament host College of Southern Nevada, which routed College of Southern Idaho 10-1, at noon Friday.

The teams quickly settled into a fast-paced pitchers’ duel between Hamlin and Brady Corless.
