In the tradition of TED, a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, comes TEDxCarsonCity which is back for a third year.

TEDxCarsonCity is a local, volunteer driven and organized event that brings people together to share a TED-like experience.

TED and TEDx communities recently celebrated 2000 events worldwide, and TEDxCarsonCity is proud to be part of a global community that is helping bring great ideas to towns and cities across the globe since the first TEDxCarsonCity event in 2016.

Tickets are going fast for the 3nd Annual Nowruz “New Year” Celebration Feast to benefit Veterans Healing Camp on Saturday, March 30 from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Casino Fandango Grand Ballroom in Carson City. Please invite a Veteran to this casual and festive fundraiser that features great food, live music, dancing, silent auction and door prize.

Nowruz is the ancient Persian “New Year” celebrated since 1700 B.C. that occurs on the first day of spring at the vernal equinox. This year, Veterans Healing Camp adds new excitement to the holiday with authentic Elvis impersonator, “Jelvis,” in addition to the two live music acts.

Here at Yaple's Ballroom in Carson City, we want to spread the connection of dance. Rumba is a great start! Learn some key moves to make your Rumba an amazing dance.

If you know the Classic Box and Night Club Two Step, you will have a little bit of a head start. If you don't know any of that mumble, we've got you covered. No problem, you don't have to know any dance. We will also have some special moves just for Rubma.

In this workshop we are going to learn some great combos that you will love. You need to know your basics to the bachata... the side basic, forward and back basic, and the basic 3 step turn in order to feel comfortable. Here at Yaple's Ballroom we understand that connecting to your partner is important. We are going to learn the style of dance of Night Club Two Step and some other exercises that will help you with your connection to your partner. Listening, balance, understanding, and just having fun as well!

You must have a partner in this class, we will not be rotating. It can be a friend, husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend, you just have to have a buddy with you to be your partner.

Expect mostly sunshine and cloudy skies today as a weather system is expected to move into the region later tonight bringing rain showers to the lower valleys and some snow to the Sierra for the first day of Spring. Idealists of Carson City, a club for positive change that meets monthly at the Brewery Arts Center, will have its next meeting on March 16, at 3 p.m. and the public is invited.

We have scheduled a self-defense class. The class will be upstairs in the Brewery Arts Ballroom, 449 King Street, Carson City. The instructor is Sean Morey, a martial arts teacher. Please wear comfortable clothing, and invite anyone you think would benefit from and enjoy this presentation. This event is free, however a $5 donation for the instructor is appreciated.

Good morning Carson City. Today is Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Many of us woke up to a nice dusting of snow on the grass and around the hillsides. The white stuff won't last very long. While technically not Spring until March 20, a week from today, there's a noticeable warmup ahead, with high temperatures near 60 by Sunday.

RENO — Local and regional industries will come together as part of the University of Nevada, Reno’s inaugural cybersecurity conference from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., April 2 in the Joe Crowley Student Union. Participants will discuss ways to tackle the growing challenges in cybersecurity through building a collaborative and synergistic relationship between industries and academia.

Uncovering Nevada’s past is the topic for the Carson City Leisure Hour Club on Wednesday, March 20. Presented by Dennis Casinelli, club members will learn about artifacts that he discovered while growing up in Nevada and during his long career as a highway engineer for the Nevada Department of Transportation. He also founded Cassinelli Landscaping and Construction, which still serves Northern Nevada today.

Heading into the home stretch that is Friday, March 8, 2019 we welcome you to the end of the work week. More spring-like weather is ahead, which isn't exactly all sunshine and flowers. The Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1975, is hosting a screen writer’s workshop taught by Carson City’s own Sean Mick.

The workshop will take place Saturday, March 2 in the Brewery Art Center’s 1864 Grand Ballroom from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
