Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber announces 2014 Blue Ribbon Award winners

Thursday night’s 7th Annual Blue Ribbon Awards was the largest yet with over 300 guests in attendance as individuals and businesses were recognized for their exemplary services, products and programs in the South Shore community. Produced by the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce, also known as TahoeChamber, this prestigious awards program solicited nominations for six categories and eight total awards.

Over 175 nominations were received and 95 of those nominated joined their peers at the Nov. 13 awards ceremony at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.

TahoeChamber announces 2014 Blue Ribbon award nominees

The nomination period for the 2014 Blue Ribbon Awards ended on Friday, Oct. 10. TahoeChamber’s prestigious awards program that recognizes exceptional South Shore businesses received over 175 nominations for eight separate award categories. The finalists and winners will be announced at the 7th Annual Blue Ribbon Awards dinner and ceremony on November 13 at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe. Carson City Parks and Recreation Awards Ceremony October 21

The Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City Parks and Recreation will present Special Recognition Awards for year 2014 recipients in a brief ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 4:30 p.m. at the monument at the entrance to the Marv Teixeira Pavilion (formerly Pony Express Pavilion) in Mills Park. The public is invited to attend this free, outdoor event.

Statewide Nevada 150 events held throughout second half of September

Behavioral Health Services will host the first Carson City Relay for Life Golf Tournament at Empire Ranch Golf Course on June 21, 2014. Entry fee is $65 and it gets you the round of golf, cart, barbecue lunch, awards ceremony. Prizes for closest to the pin and longest drives.

More than 2,200 degrees to be awarded at UNR during Friday and Saturday commencements

The University of Nevada, Reno’s 2014 Spring Commencement will confer 2,251 degrees and certificates. There will be three ceremonies, one for advanced-degree recipients Friday afternoon, May 16, and two for bachelor-degree recipients on the mornings of Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17. All three ceremonies will be held on the University’s historic Quadrangle, located on the southern part of campus.

Tahoe Regional Planning Agency announces TRPA Lake Spirit Award winners

Eight individuals who display strong personal commitment to protecting and restoring Lake Tahoe were recognized Wednesday by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency during the third annual Lake Spirit Awards ceremony at the Agency’s Governing Board meeting in Stateline.

Carson City ranks third in nation among local government websites

Carson City placed third in the nation among local government websites and digital technology serving a population of 75,000 and under, according to the national research firm Center for Digital Government.

The ranking is behind Palo Alto, Calif., and Fayetteville, Ark., and marks the fourth consecutive year the city's website, Carson.org has ranked in the Center's top 10 list. The Center serves as an advisory institute that focuses on information technology policies and best practices.

High Sierra Brewing Co. wins gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival

High Sierra Brewing Co., in Carson City took home a gold medal at the 2013 Great American Beer Festival competition held recently in Denver.

Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 84 beer-style categories were announced Oct. 12 at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colo.

Carson City Memorial Wall nominations sought

The Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City Parks and Recreation is accepting nominations of individuals, organizations, and businesses to be recognized for their contributions to Carson City's parks and recreation.

The selected names will be added to the Memorial Wall at the entrance to the Pony Express Pavilion at Mills Park, followed by an awards ceremony there on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 4:30 p.m. The categories are Organization of the Year, Business of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and Volunteer of the Years.

Silver Dollar Car Classic shines in final day at Mills Park

Epic cars, chrome, and plenty of old school memories continue today at Mills Park in Carson City. The annual Silver Dollar Car Classic winds up but there's still a chance to see some of the great hot rods in all of their polished glory.

The annual car show features hundreds of vehicles on display, along with concessions, a barbecue lunch and an awards ceremony.

15th Annual WNC Golf Classic Invites Sign-ups, Sponsors

Carson City Shade Tree Council to recognize GROW at Arbor Day ceremony

Arbor Day 2013 in Carson City will be on April 26, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Fulstone Park. This year's event will recognize Gardeners Reclaiming Our Waysides (or GROW for short) with its landscaping efforts along the Carson City freeway.

In November 2012 GROW was recognized as Carson City's "Organization of the Year" at the city's Parks and Recreation annual awards ceremony held in partnership with the Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City and the Carson City Historical Society.

Expedition Man Endurance Festival comes to Northern Nevada

High Desert Horsemen 4th Annual Trail Trial

High Desert Horsemen will be conducting their 4th annual trail trial. This is a fun event that gives horses and riders a challenge. They must complete 10 obstacles over a course set up at Fort Churchill State Park (Scout Camp). They may also purchase poker hands and have a chance at winning both simultaneously. The winners of each category (Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced) will win a beautiful engraved belt buckle. Prizes are awarded 1st to 6th place. After the competition all participants are invited to a great lunch and the awards ceremony.

Virginia City Bonanza Days to feature Comstock lecture, commemorative coin

Carson City attorney Wally Earhart will portray President Lincoln and deliver the Comstock Historical Lecture at the revival of Virginia City's Bonanza Days on March 5.

He will be joined by the Comstock Civil War Re-enactors who will assist in hosting the dinner in character. The Marshall Mint will premiere the first strike of its new Big Bonanza commemorative silver coin at the event.

Groups from Lyon County Among Those Recognized at Banquet

The Northern Nevada Immunization Coalition will host its annual celebration of immunization successes this month, and will recognize among others, the community health nursing staff of Dayton and Silver Springs.

Revived Virginia City Bonanza Days to benefit Nevada Historical Society

The inaugural Big Bonanza Days Dinner and Awards Ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 5, at Virginia City's newest hotel, the Silverland Inn & Suites.

The Silverland is the major sponsor of the event. Proprietor Hugh Roy Marshall is a longtime amateur Nevada historian. He involved two experienced Nevada business executives in the revival of one of Virginia City's most storied events.

Nevada Army Guard Retirees to be Honored in Las Vegas

CARSON CITY – The long-time military service of all recently-retired Nevada Army Guard Soldiers will be recognized December 5 in Las Vegas during the annual Retiree Appreciation Day. The event includes a retiree ceremony honoring the Nevada Army Guard’s 2010 retirees at 2:30 p.m. at the Las Vegas Readiness Center on Sunday, December 5.
The day’s events begin at 10 a.m. and will include a retiree briefing, identification card and defense enrollment eligibility updates, and the Hall of Fame retiree awards ceremony.
