Business Spotlight: Experience the Old West in a new way at Eagle Mountain Trading Post

Toni Thompson has long had a love for the American West and its history. It shows both in the decor of her retail store and in the building she rents.

Thompson, owner of Eagle Mountain Trading Post at 110 S. Curry Street in Carson City, said she couldn't be happier running her business out of the historic structure that once served as a freight depot, livery and Overland Stage stop back in the early days of the Nevada state capital.

The 5th annual Northern Nevada Youth Art Show was held Saturday at the Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery in Carson City. The art show is a fun opportunity for area youth to display their artwork for sale in a professional setting and for the community to meet the artists of tomorrow.

Local Art Gallery Nominated for Small Business of the Year Award

Carson City, NV–The national small business movement, Independent We Stand, announced the quarterfinalists of the 2015 Independent We Stand Independent Small Business of the Year Award. Nearly 22,000 votes were cast for 315 nominees during the nominations phase. For the second year in a row, Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery has been nominated for this award and made it to the quarter-final stage of voting.

July is made for picnics. Today is National Fried Chicken Day, and it does make for a good outdoors in a park kind of meal. Grab some potato salad, fresh fruit, and an umbrella: scattered thunderstorms are expected for most of the week. I’ll suggest you spend the rainy days in one of Carson City’s many art galleries, instead. The Nevada Artists Association gallery at the Brewery Arts Center, Great Basin Art Gallery on South Curry, or Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery on West Telegraph are always impressive. Check out the Carson City Arts Initiative exhibits at the BRIC and on the second floor of the Courthouse.

Happy birthday, America! Today we celebrate our independence, and what better way than with a carnival. You might as well stay at Mills Park all day, the fireworks display starts when it gets dark. Tune into Magic 95.5FM and you’ll hear the choreographed music to go along with the oohs and aaahs. Where ever you choose to watch fireworks, please be safe. There are thousands of visitors in the Northern Nevada area this weekend, and law enforcement will be out in full force.
