Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties is currently recruiting for part time and full time AmeriCorps members to work up to 12-month service terms teaching financial literacy to children, teens and adults.

Americorps Volunteers are Summertime Mentors at Boys and Girls Clubs

An Americorps National Civilian Community Corps Team, Green Four, will be working with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Mason Valley to mentor children enrolled in its summer program.

During the team’s six week engagement, the seven young adults will serve over 150 children spread between the Yerington, Silver Springs and Dayton Boys and Girls Club sites.

Senator Cyclists adopts Wild Horse Trail, Carson City's newest mountain biking trail

Carson City’s Senator Cyclists adopted the newest biking trail in Carson, located behind the softball fields at the Centennial Sports Complex, and participated in a trail clean up Thursday afternoon despite the weather.

The Wild Horse Trail was created by then-Carson-High-Senior Connor McRae and Carson City’s muscle powered as a part of McRae’s senior project in 2018.

Boys and Girls Club Adopt-A-Trail Clean-Up clears 200 lbs of garbage

On April 22nd 2019, the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada hosted their first clean-up of Fulstone Wetlands as part of the Adopt-A-Trail program.

Around 90 participants picked up 200 pounds of trash! The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department wants to extend our thanks for the efforts of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada.

Greenhouse Project celebrating 10 years of fresh bounties in Carson City

About a decade ago, a group of community members organized a sustainable horticulture program targeting food insecurity in Carson City. They called it the Greenhouse Project, a not-for-profit effort to improve the quality of food available to the area’s most hungry.

River Wranglers engages local youth in watershed education

River Wranglers (RW), a youth-oriented watershed education organization based in Carson City, has just wrapped up its fall season.

RW’s Education and Outreach Coordinator Julia Keane led students through different programs that focus specifically on the Carson River Watershed.

Keane came on board in October of 2017 as an AmeriCorps Member from the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership (SNAP).
