Artists from Carson City, Minden and Gardnerville will be featured at the 25th annual Northern Nevada Artisan Show and Sale this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2 in Reno.

The event’s 25th anniversary will be dedicated to the memory of Jim McCormick, UNR Art Department chair, artist, curator and one of the founders of the show. Admission is free.

Carson High School cheerleaders cheered as they entered Walmart in Carson City and then performed two more cheers on top of that. There is an old saying found in a very old book which says, “You have not because you ask not.”

Hello Carson City! Are we excited for the parade yet? I know I am! We’re only a few days away now, so take a gander below to find the parade line up and parade categories.

The Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1975, is thrilled to announce the line-up for their fundraiser “Evening with the Divas”, a once in a lifetime event in which four great talents take the stage at the Performance Hall for one incredible evening.

Going into the final stretch of the work week Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019 will bring cool conditions, a slight chance of rain and some sunshine. Activities around the capital city include a meeting of the Board of Supervisors, a Muscle Powered hike at Silver Saddle Ranch, a rally at the legislative building, modern western square dancing lessons, art showings, library activities and more. Everyone knows that October is breast cancer awareness month, but did you know that October is also homocystinuria (HCU) awareness month? Not many have ever heard of the disorder. I definitely hadn’t when I was diagnosed with the condition in April of 2011.

Joyce Pike has studied under artists Sergei Bongart, Viona Anne Kendell and Hal Reed and has taught at Valley College in Los Angeles, the Art League of Los Angeles, the Scottsdale School of Art in Arizona, and has taught workshops throughout the world.

Earlier this month, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak made three appointments — Robert Felder, Randy Griffin and Josh Nordquist — to the Commission on Mineral Resources.

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will open its 36th season on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at 4 p.m., with an “Overture of the Season” concert at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater.

CHS has many opportunities for students to become a part of something bigger than just themselves, not that making a name for oneself is a bad idea or anything, but it is up to the student to step on up, come on in, and check them out. There are so many clubs on campus; there are Interact Club meetings at lunch in CHS teacher Erin Been’s room every Thursday, and Been also advises the Represent Club.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the final V&T Railway train rides of the 2019 season, the 27th annual Carson City Pumpkin Patch at Seeliger Elementary School, fundraisers around town, coin press demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum, comedy at the Carson Nugget and more!

Mike Thomas will step outside North America for his October presentations at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory in Carson City.

Going into the second week of October, there's plenty of events around the capital city for this Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019 including a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered. There's also art showings, the grand opening of Carson City's Postal Annex, family movie night at the Carson City Library featuring "Muppets from Space," as well as Big Band jazz music with a fall theme at Living the Good Life and more. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Saludos Amigos" by artist Justin Favela at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The exhibition is in the gallery now through Jan. 29, 2020, at the Courthouse, 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The exhibition is free and the public is cordially invited. The second-floor gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Enjoy an evening of big-band music by the Mile High Jazz Band with vocalist Jakki Ford on Tuesday, October 8, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Living the Good Life Bistro, 1480 N. Carson Street in Carson City. Admission is free and donations are welcome. Dinner and late night menus are available.

Heading into Wednesday, Oct. 2 events lined up include Coffee with a Cop at Comma Coffee, Walk and Bike to School Day, a public meeting to discuss stormwater rates, art workshops and showings, a Bee City USA meeting at Greenhouse Garden Center, the first gathering of Women Seeking Safety classes at the Salvation Army, family story time at the library, presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren at the Carson City MAC, Salsa dancing and more.

National Honor Society held its induction ceremony Sept. 23 in the CHS Big Gym featuring guest speaker Ryan Costella a 2000 CHS graduate. Costella was an active member of NHS, and this fact influenced his desire to attend college at Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA where he earned degrees in Political Science and English.

Carson City, Nevada — The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Saludos Amigos", by artist Justin Favela at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. Favela will install his work with community assistance from September 30 – October 4. CCAI will host an opening reception on Friday, October 4, 5-7pm; the artist will give a brief talk about his work at 5:30pm. The exhibition will be in the gallery from October 4, 2019 – January 29, 2020.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of jam-packed activities over the next three days. Events include the 100th annual Candy Dance in Genoa, the Carson City Community Center Garage Sale, free walks at Nevada State Parks, Virginia City’s Street Vibrations Fall Rally, the 31st annual All-Breed Dog Shows, The Beatles Flashback tribute band concert and much more!

California’s native Paiute cutthroat trout, the rarest trout in North America, swims once again in its high Sierra home waters for the first time in more than 100 years.

When bad things happen and good people don't respond, worse things happen, and that's just the way of it. Today, while good people sit on their hands, hate crimes continue to drive the numbers of dead and wounded to formerly unimaginable heights.

On October 2, Comma Coffee located at 312 S Carson St will host Carson City’s “Coffee with a Cop” social from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. “Coffee with a Cop” is a growing initiative across America with over 650 law enforcement agencies in 47 states participating.

Homecoming, first seen in 1911 at the University of Missouri, is a wonderful event celebrated throughout the US at high schools and colleges. Homecoming is more than just a football game, it encompasses multiple celebratory events such as bonfires, tailgate parties, dances, and the crowning of a King and Queen. Fall is in the air in Carson City, and a change in the weather was one more reason for kids and adults alike to get out and celebrate this year’s Disney themed Happiest Homecoming on Earth.

Friday Sept. 13, no bad luck on this day, beginning at 1:18 p.m. was an assembly in the Big Gym during the last class of the day as an introduction to CHS’ Happiest Homecoming on Earth. Leadership students led the assembly with the first activity being the introduction of the Homecoming King and Queen candidates who made their grand entrance onto the floor.

It’s going to get hot again today with a high of 93, but don’t worry, as we get out further into the week the weather will turn more autumnal with highs in the 70s. It could be the last hot day for a while, at least until a freak 90s+ hot day in November followed by a week long blizzard, so enjoy it while it’s here!
