With veiled threats to the governors of Nevada and several other states last month by a far-right militia group, the amount of anti-government fervor may be boiling over nationally, but all is peaceful today in Carson City as more than a thousand have gathered at the Capitol to protest President Barack Obama, Sen. Harry Reid and health care.

Oh, and taxes. But there were far more anti-Obama and Harry Reid signs and a few Hitler ones than anything remotely about the IRS, today being the filing deadline for federal income taxes.

CARSON CITY – Despite being described as a “wounded” senator who has not been effective in representing Nevada in Washington, DC, state Republican officials and candidates surveyed by the Nevada News Bureau for the most part are still not calling on U.S. Senator John Ensign, R-Nev., to step down.

Carson City is looking at laying off up to 30 employees due to a budget shortfall caused by lower-than-expected sales tax revenues, according to a story by the Nevada Appeal.

Carson Now has learned that Sheriff Kenny Furlong met with his employees and indicated that 10 sworn officers and 16 civilian employees were facing layoffs. The sheriff and fire departments make up almost half of the city's budget.

A successful public information campaign to spread the word about Carson's City's historic Virginia and Truckee Railroad grand opening were recognized and honored recently.

Carson High students were truly hot last night. The school took first place in culinary and management categories at the 8th Annual Nevada ProStart Invitational.

The writing is on the wall. My hearts goes out to the slain officer’s family. Times are rough and people are getting tired of being walked on by the higher-up.
