Carson City revokes catering license in aftermath of gang-related event

The Carson City Board of Supervisors revoked the catering license of Com Productions LLC, after it was used to provide alcohol at a gang-related party in August.

Sheriff Kenny Furlong made a presentation detailing an Aug. 20 incident where his deputies shut down a party held at 1700 Forrest Way put on by Com Productions' owner Robert Schmitt.

Furlong said that one wall of the warehouse — which is also owned by Schmitt — was decorated with gang graffiti, and that a known gang member had been hired by the owner to guard the back entrance to the building for the party.

Seven Carson City businesses flagged in alcohol compliance check

Seven local businesses were flagged by the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Saturday during an alcohol to minors compliance check.

The team consisted of two deputies and two underage decoys, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office press statement. The decoys were sent into the businesses using their actual identification and they attempted to purchase alcohol from an employee.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office routinely conducts these checks with grant money it gets from the Nevada Juvenile Programs Justice Office.

Woman faces DUI charge after driving away from a Carson City pet store without her dog

Carson City authorities arrested a Minden woman Sunday for drunk driving after she was seen leaving her dog at the parking lot of PetSmart and then returning to pick up the animal.

A Carson City reserve officer witnessed the event at about 6:30 p.m. and called dispatch to report the driver. The reserve deputy observed the woman driving away from PetSmart without her dog, and then returning, driving erratically, from one parking space to another looking for the pooch. Outside of the vehicle, she appeared to be stumbling and had trouble maintaining her balance, the arrest report stated.

Lyon and Storey plant 'Seeds of Hope for Prevention, Treatment and Recovery'

September is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month, and Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey is celebrating the month by “planting the seeds of hope” that prevention works, treatment is effective, and people do recover.

Dayton Valley Days Benefits Community

Dayton Valley Days on September 18 and 19 will be more than a fun family event. The annual street fair will also benefit several local nonprofits that add to the quality of life in the Dayton Valley.

One of those nonprofits is Central Lyon Youth Connections (CLYC), an organization that offers a number of free programs to enhance positive youth development. Director Michele Watkins explained that CLYC includes Project Success, Volunteer Connections, Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws and service learning projects.

Suspected drunk driver sprayed, Tased and arrested

A man accused of felony third offense DUI fought with officers who used pepper spray and a Taser to bring the suspect under control.

Arthur R. Porter, 21, of Reno, was arrested Monday at 8:47 a.m. in the 300 block of Nye Lane in Carson City.

NHP: Increased patrols, DUI checkpoints on tap through Labor Day

As the three-day Labor Day holiday weekend and the unofficial end of the summer season nears, law enforcement agencies plan to beef up their visibility, including a number of DUI checkpoints that will begin this weekend, the Nevada Highway Patrol announced today.

At least two roadblocks will be staffed by deputies, officers and troopers as part of the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety’s joining forces grant. One roadblock will be in Lyon County on Saturday and the other in Washoe County over the weekend, NHP reported in a press statement.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong issued a press statement today regarding the early morning gang-related gun fight in the Carson City neighborhood apartment complexes on North Lompa Lane near Menlo Drive.

Carson City woman admits to stealing purse, spending money with friend on booze and smokes

An unemployed Carson City woman faces a felony grand larceny charge after admitting to stealing a woman's purse from a local casino, splitting the cash inside of it with a friend, and then buying alcohol and cigarettes.

Roseann Owens, 48, is being held on $10,000 bond at Carson City Jail. According to the arrest report, at about 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, the woman was seen leaning on the glass doors at the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Musser Street. The woman appeared to be distressed and an officer asked her what was wrong.

Carson City school board meets tonight, principal DUI issue not on the agenda

District Superintendent Richard Stokes will be absent from the meeting because of a planned vacation, officials said.

Woman faces felony charges in July 21 crash near Dayton

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports today that it has booked a 21-year-old woman on charges related to a July 21 head-on accident on Highway 50 west of Dayton.
Occupants of both vehicles were transported to Renown Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained in the accident. The occupants of the Dodge van were all discharged from Renown, the NHP reports.

Carson City authorities make drug-related arrests

A Carson City woman faces multiple drug charges after being stopped on a traffic warrant.
Geraldine May Guthrie-Dumas, 50, was booked on suspicion of felony possession of a methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance charges a well as allegedly holding prescription pills without a prescription and drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $9,581.

Carson City School District president 'amazed' marijuana charge dropped against principal

At least one Carson City School District official is troubled by the outcome of Friday's misdemeanor driving under the influence guilty plea by Carson Middle School Principal Sam Santillo.
School board trustee president Norm Scoggin said he's "amazed" that a misdemeanor charge of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana was dropped by the Washoe County District Attorney's Office.

Carson City middle school principal pleads guilty to DUI in Reno courtroom

KRNV News 4 reports tonight that Carson Middle School Principal Sam Santillo pleaded guilty today in a Reno courtroom to driving under the influence.
The 45-year-old principal failed field sobriety tests and his blood alcohol level was .136, according to the report. With the misdemeanor plea he will pay a fine of $500 and perform 48 hours of community service.

A Silver Springs man faces multiple charges, including felony assault with a deadly weapon, after he allegedly pointed a gun at his girlfriend and threatened to kill her.
Brian David Hannahs, 48, is being held on $28,132 bail. Charges include assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery, DUI second offense, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Man arrested after allegedly throwing an elbow into a Carson City deputy's head

A 28-year-old Carson City man faces a gross misdemeanor charge of battery on a police officer, and a misdemeanor resisting charge after he allegedly elbowed an officer in the head on Sunday morning outside of a bar.
Carlos Edwards Lopez was taken into custody following the alleged assault. His bail has been set at $4,612. Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of North Carson Street at about 2 a.m. after there was a report of a fight in progress, according to the arrest report.

Fallon man identified in fatal accident

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified Claude Brown, 57, of Fallon, as the man who died in the two-vehicle accident that happened Tuesday morning on Highway 50, eight miles east of Fallon.
The driver of the silver Toyota Highlander, Sidney Ellen Imeson, 50, was transported via ground ambulance from Banner Churchill Community Hospital to Renown Regional Medical Center where she is currently listed in fair condition, according to the NHP.
Alcohol did not play a part in accident and investigators are looking into whether fatigue was a factor.

Seven Carson City businesses fail sheriff's office alcohol compliance check

An alcohol compliance check in the capital city on Monday led to seven businesses that failed to comply with the law concerning sales, the Carson City Sheriff's Office is reporting.

Those businesses were: Ormsby Club Bar at 600 S. Curry St., Dotty's Casino at 3771 South Carson St., Chevron at 1102 North Carson Street, Rand Convenience Story at 1800 Highway 50 East, AM/PM Arco at 4190 South Carson St., and Casino Fandango at 3800 South Carson St., and Bodines at 5650 South Carson St.

Carson City man arrested after allegedly breaking into apartment, stealing cigarettes

A Carson City man faces burglary and threat charges after he allegedly broke into an apartment, took cigarettes, and threatened to kill the occupant.
Clinton Mathew Carlin, 39, was arrested at 3:29 on Saturday morning. Bail was set at $3,132.
According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the 900 block of East Fifth after dispatch was told there was a man attempting to gain entrance into a home through a window.

Carson City authorities arrest man on multiple charges including felony warrant

A Fresno man faces multiple charges including having a felony warrant for his arrest, after he was pulled over early Saturday morning for allegedly driving without headlights.

Darryl Parker, 43, faces DUI, marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle warrant out of Lyon County, according to the arrest report.

NHP IDs two who died in accident on Highway 50 near Carson City

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified two people who died this morning in a three-car accident on Highway 50 three miles east of Carson City.

Isolde Ann Taysom, 51, of Dayton and Scott W. Lamonda, 46, of Yerington died at the scene of the accident, reported at 6:36 a.m. in Mound House, according to the NHP.

Carson City man faces charges after allegedly punching girlfriend in the face in front of daughters

A Carson City man faces a felony probation violation charge and a charge of domestic battery after he allegedly pushed and punched his girlfriend in front of his 16-year-old daughter and the victim's 14-year-old daughter.
According to a Carson City sheriff's arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the 1500 block of Roop Street on Sunday morning at around 2:30 a.m. to meet with the victim. Carson Now will not publish the name of the suspect because the two children are tied to the investigation.

The DARE curriculum is developed by educators and taught by trained officers. It focuses on responsibility, resisting peer pressure, facts about drug abuse and techniques in making good decisions. It has components for elementary, middle, high school and after school programs.

Vodka binge lands Carson City man in jail; charged with child endangerment

A 44-year-old Carson City man faces gross misdemeanor child endangerment charges after he drank a bottle of vodka and began verbally abusing his children at a Saliman Road apartment.
Deputies were dispatched on Saturday to the Carson City Walgreens on East Williams after three visibly scared, barefoot children asked a store employee for help because their father was at home, drunk and they were afraid of him.

NHP investigation continues in Gardnerville accident that killed one

An investigation continues into a deadly accident on Pinenut and East Valley roads on Saturday that killed a 24-year-old Gardnerville man. The Nevada High Patrol says speed and alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.
NHP reports that a passenger riding in the back seat of a Mitsubishi, Michael A. Lombardo IV died at the scene after being ejected during the accident, reported at about 1 p.m.

Carson City detectives arrest Yerington man for meth, false ID in beer sting

A Yerington man faces multiple charges including felony drug possession after Carson City authorities arrested him in a sting operation involving the sale of alcohol to minors.
Nicholas Salas, 43, was arrested after a search found methamphetamine, a meth pipe and false identification.
According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, detectives were assigned on May 31 to work outside the AMPM in the 2700 block of Highway 50 East on a shoulder tap detail, which involves using government grant-funded undercover decoys.
