This week's hike has CHANGED to the new Clear Creek Trail. Since Nevada State Parks is closing some of the trails for forest management, the original trail advertised, Tahoe Rim Trail Spooner Summit-North will closed.

The meeting place has not changed. We will still meet at Highway 50 Park and Ride where we will carpool up to Spooner Summit to park in the south parking lot for the Tahoe Rim Trail.

The Clear Creek Trail begins just east of the bathroom and is accessed via the Forest Service Road just east of the bathroom.

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — The Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey counties gathers for a public meeting featuring guest speakers and discussion of regional issues on the second Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. This month’s breakfast meeting takes place on Thursday, Sept. 13 at the Silver Springs Community Center in the Lahontan meeting room at 2945 Fort Churchill Street.

A day of remembrance, heroism that won’t be forgotten, today is Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018. RENO — The Northern Nevada community is invited to join friends, parents, children and those affected directly by bleeding disorders during the Nevada Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation’s UNITE for Bleeding Disorders Walk and 5K on September 22, 2018, at Bartley Ranch.

Let’s get August off to a good start. The first Saturday of the month always plays host to the Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, but with the Jazz and Beyond Musical Festival in full swing, you’ll have even more reasons to meander around downtown. The Reno Police Department arrested a man as part of a child sexual assault case. On July 17, 2018, detectives responded to a home in north Reno on a report of a young girl who said she was the victim of a sexual assault. Since then, three victims interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center reported being victims of sexual assault.

Time to get July off to a fun start. The downtown Wine Walk is a great way to spend the day exploring new shops, galleries, and restaurants. If you’re feeling competitive, head down to the Carson Mall for their watermelon and hot dog eating contests. The summer concerts at the Brewery Arts Center continue with a singer/songwriter showcase.

Nearly 500 people volunteered Thursday along the shoreline of Lake Tahoe as part of a lakewide cleanup organized by the League to Save Lake Tahoe. Participants removed 1,458 pounds of litter that would have harmed the lake’s ecology.

More than 15 Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) with the First Juvenile District Court in Carson City were sworn in Wednesday during a public ceremony held at the Carson City Courthouse.

LeAnn Morris, Ph.D., lead technology integration specialist with the Carson City School District, recently earned the Certified Education Technology Leader designation by passing a rigorous certification exam. There are only four CETLs in the state of Nevada: two in the Carson City School District and two in the Washoe County School District.

Local organizers for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Great Strides fundraising event are urging community members to come out and walk Sunday at Mills Park in Carson City.
