Nevada enters agreement with AWHC for fertility control of Virginia Range horse population

As a first step in comprehensive management of the Virginia Range feral, estray horse population, the Nevada Department of Agriculture and the American Wild Horse Campaign signed a non-exclusive agreement Tuesday for fertility control.

In 2013, Donna Curtis spearheaded the purchase of a memorial bench on behalf of Carson City Democratic Women in the new off-leash dog park at the west end of Fuji Park.

Carson City area weather: Wind, showers and Sierra snow should move out by weekend

The active weather isn’t over yet. A weak low pressure will bring another chance for showers and gusty winds to the Carson City region through late Friday, with some snow in the mountains above Lake Tahoe, according to the National Weather Service.

When I was about 12 years old, my family took a trip down along the east side of the Sierra Nevada on our way to Lake Havasu, California, during Spring Break 1986.

NHP: Highway 395 re-opens near Jacks Valley Road after truck emits strong odor

UPDATE 1:22PM: The truck is now being assessed by East Fork Fire and has been taken back to the Douglas County Transfer Station where it had originally left from, officials said. The Nevada National Guard Civil Support Team is conducting a Hazmat assessment at the Douglas County Transfer Station, which is now closed indefinitely. There are no reported injuries at this time. Highway 395 is now open in both directions.

UPDATE 12:35PM: The scene has been declared safe and the roadway has been reopened in both directions, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol via Twitter. There is no longer a hazmat situation.

Another storm system will move its way into the region Tuesday, bringing rain and gusty winds to Carson City and lower valley regions and heavy, wet snow to the Sierra through Thursday and possibly beyond, according to the National Weather Service.

Wet weekend ahead for greater Carson City area

Residents of Carson City and surrounding communities are waking up Saturday morning to a rain and snow mix with temperatures in the 30s.

We can expect wet conditions throughout the weekend, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno reports, with 100 percent chance of showers Saturday and a high temperature into the mid-40s.

Gusty winds prompt advisory for Carson City region, Sierra under winter storm warning

While much of the Sierra is under a Winter Storm Warning, strong wind gusts in Carson City and throughout much of Western Nevada has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Wind Advisory for the region through 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Power outages in Carson City, high winds close Washoe Valley to all vehicles over 9 feet

Multiple power outages are being reported early Monday afternoon around Carson City and Douglas County due to a weather system that prompted a High Wind Warning earlier this morning for much of the region. Meanwhile, wind gusts flipped two vehicles on I-580 north of Carson City in Washoe Valley late Monday morning causing some traffic delays.

Hiking poles recommended.

Bring a friend and/or friendly dogs. All hikes are 2-4 miles with duration of about 90 minutes, sometimes with elevation gains of 500’ or more.

Public Works crews from Carson City and the Nevada Department of Transportation were busy Monday morning digging out, sanding and plowing roads from all the lake effect snow that happened Sunday.

Carson City man identified in fatal crash Thursday night on Interstate 580

A 57 year-old Carson City man has been identified as the fatality in Thursday night's multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 580 just south of the Galena Creek Bridge.

Philip Dale Hatley of Carson City was killed after he had exited his vehicle and was struck by another that had lost control on the freeway.

Carson City area Winter road conditions for Friday, Feb. 15

Chains or traction tires are required on the following road ways in and out of Carson City Friday:

— Interstate 580 through Carson City, from the Spooner Junction at South Carson Street to Eastlake Blvd at the top of Lakeview Hill.

— U.S. Highway 50 from the Highway 395 junction at William Street to Deer Run Road in Carson City, and mile post 14 in Carson City to mile post 10.8 in Churchill County.
