Senator Square: Carson High School government teacher visits Montpelier

Editor’s note: The following was written by CHS Government teacher and Future Business Leaders of America adviser Angila Golik.

I just returned from Orange, Virginia from a conference held at Montpelier, former US President James Madison's estate. I was chosen among applicants to attend this conference because I think our community needs to know the cool educational opportunities in which teachers are embarking. The conference covered “Gender, Sexual Identity, and the Constitution.”

Man sentenced to 34 years in prison in Carson City's first convicted hate crime

Travis Mickelson, a Dayton resident, was sentenced to 11 to 34 years in prison Thursday in Carson City District Court in what was tried and prosecuted as Carson City's first hate crime.

In November of 2018, Mickelson was convicted by a jury in Judge James Russell's court of attempted murder with hate crime enhancements, as well as battery and assault with a deadly weapon.

Carson City HOSA students compete in state competition, take home 6 chapter awards

CARSON CITY — A total of 93 Career and Technical Education (CTE) and HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students competed in the Nevada State Leadership Conference held at the Rio in Las Vegas March 18-20.

There were a total of 74 students from Carson High School (CHS), 6 from Pioneer High School (PHS) and 13 from Carson Middle School (CMS). More than 1,000 students from across the state of Nevada competed in more than 40 medical competition events.

A new movie that was filmed at the historic state prison in Carson City “The Mustang” starring veteran actor Bruce Dern and Matthias Schoenaerts, known for the Academy Award winning film “The Danish Girl” and Jennifer Lawrence’s “Red Sparrow,” will premiere in Carson City on April 11 at the Galaxy Fandango Theaters with the first showing at 7 p.m.

A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday night in the 1000 block of South Roop Street for suspicion of gross misdemeanor child neglect and endangerment after his two toddlers were discovered wandering outside late at night without any supervision.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies crack burglary case with two arrests

A man and woman were arrested Wednesday, Feb. 20 and Thursday, Feb. 21, respectively, in connection with a residential burglary investigation in Carson City.
