Girlfriends Golf Tournament at Dayton Valley raises money for area girls’ high school golf teams
Several local girls golf teams will get a financial boost this week. The annual Girlfriends Golf Tournament, held Sunday, Oct. 3 at Dayton Valley Golf Course, netted $3,795 which will be donated to several girls’ high school teams.
Tournament founder, Divine 9 Golf owner, Jackie Behan says she saw a need and wanted to help fulfill it.
“Some years ago, I was a volunteer assistant to a high school girls golf team. I noticed that a lot of the players didn’t have financial support for basic equipment and supplies,” Behan said. “I believed that we as a community could step up and provide some of that support and at the same time enjoy a day of golf for local ladies.”
More than 50 players took part in this year’s event, which started seven years ago with just 16 players. Each player designates the golf team they would like to benefit on their entry form. Money is also raised with a raffle.
The funds were distributed this week to the various teams as such: $1,945 to Dayton High School, $592 to Carson High School, $518 to Galena High School, $444 to Douglas High School and $296 to North Valleys High School.
The tournament, which is a four-person scramble, is open to all women regardless of golfing skills. To receive information on next year’s Girlfriends Golf email jackie@divine9golf.com.
