Carson City Sheriff's Office recognizes 30-year RSVP volunteer Emmabell Herak
On Monday, Susan Haas, executive director of RSVP and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office gave recognition to Ms. Emmabell Herak for her 30 years of RSVP volunteering at the Sheriff’s Office.
Although everyone believes and agrees it’s been much longer, records just don’t accurately pinpoint the date of her arrival. Ms. Emmabell is quite the feature character with her desk just outside Sheriff Ken Furlong’s office.
Twice a week she gets her RSVP ride to the office and begins her routine of administrative matters, supervising custodial inmates, delivering mail, and seeing to the all-around activities of the Sheriff’s Administration. To her credit of over 30 years, Emmabell has been responsible for 100 or more arrests of persons showing up at the Sheriff’s Office for one reason or another, but being a wanted person with outstanding warrants.
When on duty, Ms. Herak rules, and what she says goes. While many think they may be in charge, including Sheriff Furlong, of this matter or that, if Emmabell is not in agreement, she lets folks know in no uncertain terms. And according to Sheriff Furlong, it’s very difficult to win an disagreement with her. She’s firm, but loving and caring and always fills the building with laughter.
Emmabell is one of the most prominent professional characters of the Sheriff’s Office, now having served four Sheriff’s Administrations. With this kind of tenure, she has stories to tell, but that always takes a back seat to getting her responsibilities done. She arrives, gets her work done, and leaves with her desk ready for her next shift visit. We love Emmabell Herak and know she feels the same back.
Our appreciation goes out to the Susan Haas, Executive Director RSVP, as well as those volunteers supporting our community wide Volunteer Programs.
