Thieves steal American flags, a statue in north Carson City neighborhood
A number of American flags have been stolen from homes in the Silver Oak area in recent weeks and on Friday a 100 pound statue was reported missing, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.
At least two stolen American flags have been reported to the sheriff’s office with reports of other missing flags over the past couple weeks, the sheriff said.
“This is a very personal matter for people who have their flags stolen and we’ve devoted resources to this,” said Furlong who himself gave the area extra patrol last week.
A decorative horse statue that weighed around 100 pounds was stolen from someone’s lawn off of Winnie Lane sometime Friday. Furlong believes more than one person was involved in that theft.
He said the area where the thefts have happened is especially dark at night, making it easy for thieves to hide. He notes that in order to find and prosecute the thieves, they will have to be found with the evidence in their possession.
Furlong advised all neighborhood residents from throughout the city take a pro-active approach in dealing with thefts.
“It will help us tremendously if neighbors keep an eye out for one another and if they see anything suspicious, to let us know right away,” he said. “And the best way to do that is to call 911.”
