Carson City area weather: Another hot day, with chance of thunderstorms
Isolated thunderstorms are possible again Wednesday afternoon in the Sierra and western Nevada region, according to the National Weather Service.
It will be another hot day today around the Carson City region with daytime highs in the low to mid 90s. The thunderstorm potential may begin develop in the afternoon, much like what happened Tuesday. However, as of Wednesday morning, the chance for precipitation around the capital city is 20 percent, with breezy afternoon conditions and winds that could gust as high as 30 mph.
Much of the thunderstorm activity will be high-based with the bulk of the atmospheric moisture in the mid to upper-levels leading to some possible downbursts, according to the weather service.
Storm motion is anticipated to be a bit stronger Wednesday compared to Tuesday with a typical zephyr wind likely thanks to the shortwave and surface temperature gradient.
Isolated thunderstorms are forecast to start forming along the eastern Sierra in Mono and Alpine counties by early afternoon. As the afternoon progresses, coverage is likely to extend into Mineral County creeping northward along the Sierra Front region.
Impacts such as brief downpours, lightning, gusty outflows, and small hail are possible with any storms.
For Thursday, showers and isolated thunderstorms will be possible again for Mono and southern Mineral counties. A slight chance also exists along the Sierra crest reaching just north of Tahoe, but confidence is not as strong. As for temperatures, a few degrees cooler region-wide is expected, but remaining above average.
