Carson City man chucks stolen credit cards during foot chase

A Carson City man faces multiple misdemeanor charges after he reportedly fled from authorities, tossing stolen credit cards and dropping a CO2 gun during a foot chase over several blocks.

The 24-year-old unemployed man with a history of trouble with the law was seen walking with another man and reportedly looking through homes at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of Walker Drive in Carson City.

Authorities made contact with the two men, both described as wearing flannel shirts with having black beanies on their heads, at the intersection of Truckee and Steamboat streets. The 24-year-old suspect and his partner were asked by a police officer for IDs. The suspect refused, stating he didn't do anything wrong. The second man provided a photocopy of a Nevada identification card, according to the arrest report.

When both men were asked to sit, the 24-year-old suspect took off running. Officers chased the man, who dropped a CO2 gun and then was seen chucking credit cards underneath a truck parked on the street, the report stated.

The foot chase continued north on Salmon Drive. Capt. Clay Wall then drove to the intersection attempting to block the suspect's escape route while another officer stood by on Salmon Drive. The man then changed directions and went through a residential yard and climbed a fence in the 1600 block of Salmon, where Capt. Wall advised he had the man at gunpoint. He was taken into custody.

A search of the man turned up a Nevada driver's license and an identification card that didn't belong to him. Also recovered was a cell phone at the residence where the suspect had jumped the fence, the report stated.

The man faces charges of possession of stolen property, obstructing/delaying arrest, trespassing and destruction of property. Bail was set at $1,633.

In other arrests:

— A 29-year-old Carson City man faces several misdemeanor charges including resisting authorities, disorderly conduct and making threats.

The man was arrested in the 4100 block of Pheasant Drive on Saturday at around 8:45 p.m. According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the neighborhood after a call of a domestic dispute.

A woman told authorities that she had gotten into an argument with her boyfriend and roommate and asked him to leave the home. Authorities had been to the home and found nothing in which an arrest could be made.

Case closed? Hardly.

While authorities prepared to leave home, the man approached the arresting officer and attempted to shake his hand. When the officer told the suspect that, for safety reasons, he doesn't shake anyone's hands while on duty, the man exploded, demanding the officer to shake his "f***ing hand."

The officer told the man that it was nothing person and it was safety protocol. The man then attempted to grab officer's magazine pouch on his duty belt, whereby the officer pushed the man away. The man then reportedly told the officers: "Step back inside my house motherf****rs. I will f*** you guys up. You can't even shake my hand you f***ing p*****s. Come on you p***y-a** motherf****rs!"

Several people from nearby residences stepped outside after hearing the obscenity-laced yelling. Officers then asked the man to take his hands out of his pockets, whereby the man reportedly yelled: "You want me to take my f*****g hands out of my pockets? Fine motherf*****s!" The man then made a hand gesture of a gun, telling the officers that he would shoot them. The man then reportedly took a swing at one of the officers, who quickly subdued and placed him into cuffs. The 29-year-old man faces charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and making threats. Bail was set at $1,369.

— A Carson City woman was arrested on a felony failure to appear warrant and a parole and probation hold.

Megan Kendall, 26, was arrested at around 10 a.m. on Jan. 28 in the 2400 block of Ravenshorn Drive in Carson City. An anonymous tipster called authorities to tell them the woman was staying at the residence.

Officers went to the home and was told by a woman living there that Kendall wasn't there but had been the night before. The woman appeared nervous, according to the arrest report, and was pressed further, with officers telling her that it was illegal to harbor a fugitive. The woman eventually told authorities she was in the home. Officers found Kendall hiding under a blanket on the floor.

The woman had a no bail parole and probation hold and a failure to appear warrant issued out of drug court in Lyon County. The woman was taken to jail.
