He was considered a potential 2012 Republican presidential contender before a scandal ended his political aspirations.
Instead of doing the honorable act of resigning from his political office, he refused this option and finished his term as governor, leaving office in 2010.
His wife filed for divorce (and rightly so) and moved out of the Governor’s Mansion with their four children. She had earned the majority of their wealth as an investment banker.
And now, Fox News has hired the former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford as a Fox News paid contributor!
Another Republican who has joined the ranks of John Ensign, Newt Gingrich, and a host of other self-righteous Republicans who ran on a “family values” platform, while at the same time preaching to the conservative electorate about morality.
Apparently, if you are a Republican, it pays to cheat on your wife.
I remember well the outrage expressed by Republicans and conservatives when former Governor of New York, Elliot Spitzer, was caught up in a sex scandal, and then hired by a news network.
All I hear is the sound of crickets coming from the Right when it comes to Sanford.
As a classical conservative, I find this interesting.
