Anti-bully campaign underway at Pioneer High School
English III students at Pioneer High School have been learning about frequently used propaganda techniques and how they are used to persuade an audience.
Propaganda techniques appeal to an audience’s emotions and often contain misleading information. When students can identify propaganda techniques and can evaluate messages they encounter, they will become discerning media consumers. These skills can help students make well-informed decisions when listening, reading, or viewing information.
This instructional unit happens to coincide with Nevada’s annual Week of Respect, a week dedicated to promoting respectful school environments.
English 3 students designed posters using common propaganda techniques to foster conversations about respect, bullying, and safety. The posters were presented in class and then displayed in the school hallway. Through academic pursuits and numerous other activities, Pioneer students are doing their part to develop a positive environment on campus.
