Carson girls soccer dominates the Panthers on the pitch
The women of Carson High School and North Valleys High School met on the pitch earlier Saturday in Carson City. The girls came out strong right out the gate and set up shop in the North Valleys third of the pitch and had what looked to be a goal in the 9th minute, but got taken away by an off sides call.
Then in the 14th minute, the North Valleys keeper made a jaw dropping save to keep the score at 0-0. It wasn't until the 37th minute when Myra Olivares would blast one to the back of the net to finally give Carson the first goal.
Carson continued to dominate the second half as well, basically living in the North Valleys third of the pitch and continuing to get some good shots off. Carla Reyes of Carson capitalized on a penalty kick in the 60th minute, and Nahim Flores found the back of the net in the 68th minute to give Carson a 3-0 lead.
I asked Head Coach Greg Lehman what such a dominating win does to the girls’ confidence.
“We still are just trying to get more shots to find the back of the net. The more shots we finish, the more confidence we’ll have,” he said.
It seemed as if the whole game Carson’s pace and condition was simply better and faster. I asked Coach Lehman how important conditioning will be, especially against other highly talented teams like Douglas and replied with, “We try to get our conditioning done through training. As long as we continue to train hard we should be able to play hard as well.”
Coach Lehman said that Douglas is a top team, as well as Galena and Reno, but Carson definitely belongs in the mix of top teams.
Carson plays at McQueen this Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. The final score of this contest Carson: 3, North Valleys: 0.
