Construction continues on FISH commercial building in Carson City; 1st and 2nd floor to house local businesses
Still on track for a completion date of September 2023, FISH’s Family Student Housing Revitalization Project is the first of its kind in the state of Nevada.
Meaning no other 501(c)(3) non-profit in the state of Nevada has created a residential apartment building for people experiencing underemployment and low income to go back to school, receive technical training certifications, and receive wrap-around services, all to shape the lives of their families for generations to come.
In fact, this spring, our beta program candidate Chris Jibson graduated from Western Nevada College with a certificate in Cyber Security. Proof that hard work, dedication, and community support have a massive impact on an individual.
Your contributions are making a difference. In May, guests of the Have A Heart with Celebrity Waiters fundraiser had the opportunity to step foot into the newly constructed Student Housing apartment buildings to see the outline of the building, and the progress, and learn more about how the project is going to shape this region of the state.
And shaping this region of Nevada is just the beginning. Because we know that once this program takes off, it will inspire other counties in Nevada to follow suit, which will inspire other states, which will change the U.S. economy and workforce dramatically over time. It all starts with one step forward and we're taking it.
In the month of June, 2nd and 3rd floors will be added to the commercial building which faces N. Carson St. Once ready for operation, the 1st and 2nd floors of the commercial building will be home to local businesses while the 3rd floor will be designated to additional training, self-development, and events for the Student Housing residents in partnership with local and regional organizations.
