Congressional candidate to speak at Democratic luncheon
The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Tim Hanifan, primary candidate for Nevada District 2 of the United States House of Representatives. He is one of seven candidates on the Democratic side. His rivals include Joseph Afzalk, Michael Doucette, Gerold Lee Gorman, Brian Hansen, Rahu Joshi and Elizabeth Mercedes Krause. Hanifan is the only candidate in that field who hails from the Carson City area.
Timothy Hanifan grew up in a military family in the Carson Valley. He received his degree in Chemistry from the University of Nevada, Reno. Tim says that his upbringing instilled in him some valuable lifelong lessons, including the value of hard work and selfless service. As he puts it, "I have always found myself in positions — either as an educator, leader, or within my current customer service role — where every day I am afforded the opportunity to speak with the public and help enrich their everyday lives." Hanifan believes he is ready to bring those well-honed interpersonal skills and genuine concern for others to the job of representing this congressional district in Washington, D.C.
Hanifan goes on to say that, "One of the many reasons I am running for Congress is because I am a scientist. I seek to help make science the foundation of the decisions made in Congress and the country. Being a scientist means being committed to compromise and finding a solution which benefits everyone. Growing up in Northern Nevada, I understand and believe it represents a microcosm of the United States, both rural and developing areas alike. If elected, I will be the loudest voice for those overlooked by our current system, as I believe more must be done to address the monumental challenges facing everyday Nevadans."
Sponsored by the Democratic Men's Committee, this event is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, May 9th, and can be attended either in person at Black Bear Diner, inside Max Casino, or online via Zoom. Hanifan will take the floor after all lunch orders have been taken, around 1:30. Those wishing to be on distribution for luncheon Zoom links suld email Rich Dunn, Men's Committee Events Coordinator, at richdunn@aol.com.
