"Nuclear Physics: Fission and Fusion, Explosions and Electricity" Presentation by Dr. Thomas Herring, Head of Physics and Engineering at Western Nevada College. Basics of nuclear physics: what scientists mean when they say "radiation", structure of the nucleus, forces between things in the nucleus, effects of nuclear radiation on humans, technological applications of nuclear physics. History of nuclear physics and physicists that pioneered the field will be presented. Technological applications such as nuclear fission power, nuclear fusion power, and nuclear weapons will be discussed. Talk will conclude with thoughts on the future of nuclear power followed by audience questions and answers. The lecture is free and open to the public.
