White Pine Fair and Horse Races

This August, troves of visitors from all over will flock to the 83rd annual White Pine Fair and Horse Races Western festival in Ely, Nev. Eventgoers can expect the same thrills and nod to Western tradition at this jam-packed, three-day event that has taken place for decades.

NEW WASHOE CITY, Nev. — Join a park ranger and the staff from Nevada Bugs and Butterflies for a bug walk at Washoe Lake State Park. Participants will look for butterflies, caterpillars, and other interesting insects in the willows next to Deadman’s Creek.

RoseBud's 8/3 concert moved to Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall

Due to heavy smoke settling on the area, the RoseBud's Dance Band's performance for Monday, Aug. 6, as part of the Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival has been moved to inside the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St. The concert was originally planned for Comma Courtyard, but the performers want to present the event in a comfortable and healthy atmosphere.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office detectives have determined that the Sunday afternoon report of a shooting in Carson City at the I-580 and College Parkway exit was falsely reported by the victim, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

I wish there was something I could do about the smoke in the air; it’s difficult not knowing if the wind is going to help or hurt the situation. The 15th Annual Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival in Carson City continued Sunday with outdoor performances on the Capitol Plaza complex between the Nevada Legislature and the Nevada State Capitol Building Sunday evening.

UPDATE: 6:12PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong has released the following statement on the suspected shooting that occurred on Interstate 580 Sunday afternoon:

The search continues on Lake Tahoe for a swimmer that went missing Saturday near south shore. Marine units of Douglas County Sheriff's Office, South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County Sheriff's, Washoe County and the U.S. Coast Guard are all in the area where the swimmer was last seen.

Carson City emergency crews have responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on College Parkway at Interstate 580 in which the victim had suffered an apparent gunshot wound.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, "The Wind Calls", at the Community Development Building [the Brick], 108 E. Proctor Street in Carson City.

Nine University of Nevada, Reno students have work in the art exhibit. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Friday, Sept. 7 from 5–7 p.m. The free exhibition is available to the public through Oct. 9, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m.

"The Wind Calls" includes work by Mahedi Anjuman, Nicki Bracco, Mark Combs, Teal Francis, Hannah Huntley, Gwaylon Leaf, Frances Melhop, Ally Messer, and Carla Miller.

UPDATE: 1:45PM: The AQI in Carson City is currently rated at 101 in the unhealthy range as of 1 p.m. Sunday, according to NDEP data.

Smoke from regional and Northern California wildfires has drifted back into the Carson City area, resulting in a moderate air quality index (AQI) rating of 53 as of 10 a.m. Sunday morning, according to readings from the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP).

A 42 year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday morning at 12 a.m. in the 3800 block of Imperial Way on a second misdemeanor domestic battery offense, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

A 30 year-old man was arrested early Friday morning at 12:33 a.m. on multiple drug offenses, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said, including two counts of felony heroin possession, one count of felony methamphetamine possession, and gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous prescription drug without a prescription.
