Nevada Women's Expo to focus on friends, family and reunion planning

State Health Division Awards Three Grants for Nevada Students
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 02/26/2013 - 4:00pmThe Nevada State Health Division has awarded three planning grants to Nevada organizations to develop new or enhance existing comprehensive school-based health centers. Approximately 19,000 students from three Nevada counties — Lyon, Washoe and Clark — stand to benefit from the grants. Grant monies will also be used to enhance school emergency preparedness.
Grant recipients — Healthy Communities Coalition, Nevada Board of Regents and Community Health Alliance Foundation — identify main schools for the SBHCs, and arrange for several “feeder schools” to participate.

Walk ups are welcome. The blood donation van will be parked at the corner of Roop and Musser streets. United Blood Services is hosting the event.

Carson City, Washoe County health agencies receive grants to explore partnership
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 02/01/2013 - 10:36amHealth agencies in Carson City and Washoe County have each received a $125,000 two-year grant that will be used to explore ways to partner, otherwise known as "cross-jurisdictional sharing."
The Carson City Health and Human Services and Washoe County Health District are recipients of Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grants that will aid in the mission of protecting and promoting health in both counties, according to a news release.

Go easy on yourself in 2013 was among the many themes at the heath faire, where guests walked through to get their blood pressure checked, sample tasty health foods, compare insurance options and home health care needs, get free flu shots and learn about the many ways to maintain good healthy habits for the year.

Carson High School Safe Grad 5k Run/Walk

Carson high Safe Grad program has been an annual tradition in Carson City for over 20 years. It provides our graduating seniors with a safe and sober, all night celebration on the eve of their graduation, followed by a trip to the Six Flaggs Discovery Kingdom amusement park in Northern California. This event has been a tremendous success in that not one graduation night fatality for a Carson High School graduate had occurred since its inception in 1988.

Carson Tahoe Invests in Earlier Stage Detection of Illnesses

The CT (computed tomography) scanner produces crisp, detailed images of the body in just seconds.
Flu Vaccine Available

Clinic locations are 900 E. Long Street in Carson City and 1538 US Highway 395 in the Stratton Center in Gardnerville. Flu rates are affordable; many insurances accepted, and low-cost options available. Call (775) 887-2190 or (775) 782-9038 for more information.
