The region's premiere women’s event, The 11th Annual Nevada Women's Expo, will take place on March 23-24 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Women to Women, a television interview program on Charter Cable that puts the spotlight on important issues in Northern Nevada and the women behind them who are making a difference, has begun its second season with a contest and is inviting anyone to participate for a chance to win prizes.

The Nevada State Health Division has awarded three planning grants to Nevada organizations to develop new or enhance existing comprehensive school-based health centers. Approximately 19,000 students from three Nevada counties — Lyon, Washoe and Clark — stand to benefit from the grants. Grant monies will also be used to enhance school emergency preparedness.

Grant recipients — Healthy Communities Coalition, Nevada Board of Regents and Community Health Alliance Foundation — identify main schools for the SBHCs, and arrange for several “feeder schools” to participate.

Carson City ATA Academy has created a Community Action Team dedicated to bettering our communities and to help those in need. Carson ATA, partnering with Kidz Matter, invites families to attend 3 FREE seminars on Saturday, Feb. 23.

CARSON CITY — With increased focus on heart health this February, Carson Tahoe Health employees take some time to show their support for heart disease prevention and awareness. Although the health care industry is known for promoting heart health on a daily basis, Carson Tahoe Health employees enjoy seeing regional and nationwide support for such a meaningful cause.

Health agencies in Carson City and Washoe County have each received a $125,000 two-year grant that will be used to explore ways to partner, otherwise known as "cross-jurisdictional sharing."

The Carson City Health and Human Services and Washoe County Health District are recipients of Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grants that will aid in the mission of protecting and promoting health in both counties, according to a news release.

On Saturday, Dr. Todd Gray, DDS will be presenting a workshop on Dental Health at The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City. The Safe and Sober 5k is organized by volunteers of the Safe Grad Committee. Carson high Safe Grad program has been an annual tradition in Carson City for over 20 years. It provides our graduating seniors with a safe and sober, all night celebration on the eve of their graduation, followed by a trip to the Six Flaggs Discovery Kingdom amusement park in Northern California. This event has been a tremendous success in that not one graduation night fatality for a Carson High School graduate had occurred since its inception in 1988.

Carson Tahoe Health and Walmart announce the opening of the newest location for basic health care services – “The Carson Tahoe Clinic at Walmart.” This convenient care clinic is now open to patients and will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, inside the Walmart located at 1511 Grant Avenue, off Highway 395.

Carson Tahoe Health today announced that patients and physicians in the region can now access the latest diagnostic imaging technology from Philips Medical Systems at Carson Tahoe Minden Medical Center (CTMMC). The CT (computed tomography) scanner produces crisp, detailed images of the body in just seconds.

Carson City Health and Human Services and Douglas County Community Health have a large supply of flu vaccine for ages 6 months and older. No appointment needed from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m. through January 25 (closed January 21).
