Carson City is now accepting letters of intent for the Community Support Services Grant for projects taking place July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. Special consideration will be given to nonprofits providing mental health services.

Friends of the Douglas County Library Book Sale happening February 16 - 17

The Friends of the Douglas County Library will host a two-day used book sale, Friday and Saturday, February 16-17, at the Minden Library, 1625 Library Lane, Minden.

The sale will feature paperback and hardcover fiction and nonfiction books, children's books, puzzles and more. A preview sale for members of Friends of the Douglas County Library will be from Noon to 3 pm on Friday, February 16; non-members can join at the door.

The Annual 4-H Fabric Sale will be held on February 3rd and 4th, 2024 at Fuji Park Exhibit Hall, 601 Old Clear Creek Rd in Carson City. Doors will be open on Saturday from 9 am to 4pm and Sunday from 9am to noon (weather depending.)

Aviator becomes Nevada Guard US Property and Fiscal Officer

Longtime Army aviator Lt. Col. Andrew Wagner’s military career path completed its transition from rotary-wing aviation to financial and logistics management Jan. 19 when he succeeded Col. Mary Devine as the U.S. Property and Fiscal Officer for Nevada. Wagner, 46, of Reno, is just the 10th USPFO officer for the Nevada Guard since the conclusion of World War II.

Carson City Senior Center hosts conversation with Nevada Artist Fellow poet Kathy Nelson

The Carson City Senior Center will host poet Kathy Nelson on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 12:30 p.m. Nelson is a poet and a 2024 Nevada Arts Council Artist Fellow. As a relative newcomer to the area, she writes poetry about the northern Nevada landscape and ecosystem in order to acquaint herself with the area’s beauty and distinct character.

We would like the community to know that Browsers Corner Book Store in Carson City, across from the Carson City Library, received a large donation of Harry Potter film books, as well as film books about other popular movies. These books are all high quality and in excellent shape and will be a great addition to someone’s collection.

Eagle Valley Women's Golf Club preparing for mid-April start

The Eagle Valley Women’s Golf Club plays 18 hole rounds on Wednesday mornings from mid-April through early October. We play both the East course and the West course at Eagle Valley Golf Course. We also have a 9-hole after work league on Thursday, with tee times available from 3:30 to 4:30. Any member of the league is entitled to play either or both.
