CLOSURE UPDATE: Carson City School District schools will be closed Wednesday

UPDATE: Schools in the Carson City School District will be closed Wednesday, March 1, it was announced this morning. All employees and students should remain home. No student activities, afterschool programs or practices will occur, including remote instruction. No school services such as transportation, nutrition or student health will be provided.
Northern Nevada backyards and gardens: Waterlogged or deeply watered?

My friend Sandie asked me a good question this week, “Is all this moisture good or bad for trees?” If you have read my column for a while, you know I preach repeatedly that trees need watering all year, including the winter. If precipitation doesn’t come as rain or snow, we have to drag out hoses or turn on irrigation systems.
Carson Tahoe Health big winner in recent Silver State Accountable Care Organization contest

CARSON CITY — Silver State Accountable Care Organization (ACO) recently named Carson Tahoe Health’s Medical Group the winner in four categories listed in last year’s “Close the Gap Contest.” CTMG was recognized for their efforts in: Breast cancer screening, colorectal screening, tobacco use & cessation and depression screenings.
UPDATE I-580 through Washoe Valley open with chain controls

UPDATE WEDNESDAY 4:28AM: NDOT says chains or snow tires are required on I-580 through Washoe Valley.

UPDATE 3:18PM: Geiger Grade, State Route 341 is now open with chains or snow tires required. Meanwhile, I-580 from Mt. Rose Highway to Bowers Mansion area, SR 338 and Mt. Rose Highway from Douglas Fir Drive to Fairview Boulevard remain closed.

The Nevada Department of Transportation reports that I-580 is currently closed Tuesday afternoon from the Bowers Mansion area to Mt. Rose Highway (SR 431) due to extremely low visibility, blowing snow and multiple crashes.

Sierra Nevada Realtors released its January 2023 report last week on existing home sales in Carson City, Washoe, Storey, Lyon, Douglas and Churchill counties. This report includes median sales price and the number of home sales in the region. SNR obtains its information from the Northern Nevada Regional Multiple Listing Service.

Another round of snow and wind returns to the Carson City area and surrounding counties Tuesday and should last through the evening before the brunt of the system begins to move out of the region, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
