UPDATE: The Excessive Heat Watch issued by the National Weather Service earlier has been upgraded to a Heat Advisory and has been extended from Friday through Tuesday.
Fernley man charged with first degree murder in Monday's fatal shooting of his brother

A Fernley man has been charged with first degree murder with use of a deadly weapon in the fatal shooting of his brother that happened Monday morning in Fernley, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.

With "solitude" as its August theme, the Carson City Photo Club has unveiled the winners of its monthly photo contest. The competition brought some impressive submissions, which led to a split for third place.

The 2nd annual 5K run raising funds for the Northern Nevada Alzheimer’s Association (NNAA) will be returning to Carson City on Saturday, Sept. 17.
According to event organizer Brenda Collings, each year NNAA holds a big annual walk at the Sparks Marina, but she wanted to create a fundraising event closer to home.
Planning Commission to hear request for virtual reality arcade in downtown Carson City

System’s Edge LLC has requested a Special Use Permit (SUP) from the Carson City Planning Commission to establish a Virtual Reality Arcade at 1087 S. Carson Street.
The location, which is inside the office park in front of Red’s Old 395 Grill, is zoned Downtown Mixed-Use, of which an “amusement arcade” is a conditional use.
