Carson City Sheriff's Office asks for public's help locating runaway teen

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance with locating 16-year-old Alyssa Hamilton. Alyssa left her home on August 24, 2022, at approximately 4:30 p.m. and has not been seen by her parents since.

Sept. 1 deadline to play in Minden Rotary's Bill Henderson Memorial Golf Tournament

The Rotary Club of Minden will host the 2nd Annual Bill Henderson Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, Sept. 9, 2022 at Genoa Lakes Golf Course.

Caution urged as algae and harmful algal blooms found around Lake Tahoe

With the climate becoming hotter and drier, the consequences are taking a toll on the region's ecosystem. If you've been at the beaches of Lake Tahoe recently, you'll notice something that isn't normal — algae, and lots of it. Experts are warning residents and visitors to be on the lookout for harmful algal blooms (HABs) in bodies of water in the greater Tahoe area.

No area is in the danger zone at this time, but people and dogs using the following areas should take caution:

Donations sought for Chili Bingo Night fundraiser to benefit Carson High band program

Donations are needed for Chili Bingo Night, a fundraiser for the Carson High School band program. Organizers are looking for businesses to donate items for this annual fundraiser, set for Friday, Oct. 7, 2022 at the Carson High School gym from 6 to 8 p.m..

Skull Bowl Workshop at Ogres-Holm Pottery

This workshop is only offered once a year. Freshly thrown bowls are provided to class participants. You’ll be taught how to cut and sculpt the clay to create unique skulls. Come back to glaze and fire your bowls. All materials are included in the class price of $95. Bowls will be ready to pick up before Halloween. No experience is necessary!

Carson City Library summer program surpasses reading goal with over 560K minutes read

During the Carson City Library’s 2022 Summer Learning Challenge, over 560,000 total minutes were read by participants. This is the equivalent of over 9,300 hours.

The goal for this year’s challenge was 400,000 total minutes read, which was far surpassed.

Theft at Carson City Walmart leads to arrest for felony, misdemeanor warrants

A 37-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday for felony and misdemeanor warrants and other alleged offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Carson City area weather: Wind and low humidity expected Saturday prompts fire watch

Windy conditions and low humidity in the forecast have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Fire Weather Watch from Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening for much of western and northern Nevada, including Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Storey and Washoe counties.

New program seeks locally grown or processed products to feed Nevadans

In an effort to support Nevada agriculture and improve food security for Nevadans in need, the Home Feeds Nevada Agriculture Food Purchase program was established through Senate Bill 370 and passed during the 81st Legislative Session. Through this program, the Nevada Department of Agriculture will purchase foods that are grown, produced or processed in Nevada and distribute them through designated food banks to populations in need.
